Framing fashion with Dixie Dixon

Well, i wouldn’t necessarily consider someone who photographs someone wearing fashion a fashion photographer.
Edward Steichen, Paolo Roversi, Collier Schorr, Roe Ethridge, Tim Walker, Patrick Demarchelier, VINCENT
VAN DE WIJNGAARD, Jeff Burton, Stephen Klein, Bruce Weber, Glen Luchford, Alasdair McLellan, Peter Lindbergh, Nadav Kander, Alexi Lubomirski, Yelena Yemchuk-these people are “fashion” photographers. Just to name a few.
Just my humble opinion BUT in order to shoot an editorial for Vogue Italia it takes a little more. Good taste.
Also, not everybody can walk into a Model Agency in Paris and book a girl for a job. The bookers there are very picky with photographers.
Maybe I’m just too spoiled when i look at the people at Management+Artists, ArtPartner, 2bManagement etc.
But good for her. She makes good money.

She is from Dallas and we are proud of her. But it does amaze me how youth will trump age and experience in the fashion photography business. I've heard her speech before, and she has worked hard but mostly been at the right place at the right time with a lot of luck. She obviously made a decision very young in life to be a photographer while most of us had to make hard decisions about growing up and having a family and making a good living. If she is still active in the business at 45, I will consider her a success.

At the rate she's shooting images, you can say she's not of the film era.

I had the pleasant opportunity of meeting Dixie last year at a presentation she made at ProCam in Livonia, Michigan.
She is a beautiful, a humble, a pleasant, and a very approachable person.
These qualities, and her unusual simplicity, allow her to easily connect with her subjects.

After the presentation, a number of people, including myself, spent some time chatting with her, and she even let me try her Nikon D4s :)

A number of comments here talk about "she has a lot to learn"! But don't we all have a lot to learn?

Luckily, I had one of my tiny pocket cameras on me, so she was kind enough to pose for some pictures. Thanks again Dixie.

Impressive to see a young person doing big productions and managing those well. When I was 20 I was dreaming of doing that yet very far off the mark. Good for her!

Good on the girl ... she's heading in the right direction and that's great. However, in the UK i see many (more) talented budding fashion photographers. This is very 'American' which has a very different look to European fashion. I'm surprised she's getting so much publicity as in UK her work would be ten a penny (or dime!) :) But go girl ... persue your dreams but i feel you have lots yet to learn ...

She spent four torturous years photographing swimsuit models all around the World . . . uhuh. Torture. For sure. If that's torture, then I want to be tortured for the rest of my life. ;)

OT but imagine the reaction if a successful male said they went to college and "majored in girls".

she is earning an honest living doing what she loves to do...more power to her.

Good for her. Always great to see folks produce good imagery and make money in this field.

At her 20, Dixie has already enormous achievements. It must be a combination of great personality and approachability, talent and skills.
I wish her to go all the way to the top of fashion photography and have no doubt that her passion will be fulfilled in not so distant future.

This is called glamour photography, borderlining on "cheap" fashion. Then talking about "keeping everything real" while photoshopping the hell out of it.
"fashion" is a different level.

Wow fantastic feature, really inspiring to see her energy and approach, and the way she connects with her subjects and models.

An awesome and professional talent, but a little bit too much focus on Nikon.

Dixie is an amazing young lady. She has accomplished more in her first 20 years than many do in a life time.

Very good, nice to see a genuine born photographer and one who enjoys it so much. Her enthusiasm is infectious.

Not only is Dixie an outstanding photographer, she has a wonderful personality that brings out the best in her models and subjects. Her video was definitely worth watching.
