1.4 and More: Canon EF 35mm F1.4L II comparison

Canon made some big claims about the development put into its 35mm F1.4L II. Canon rolls out trio of inexpensive 20MP PowerShot ELPHs

Canon has introduced three new PowerShot ELPHs, serving as the company's entry-level cameras. The models include the ELPH 360 HS, which has a 20MP BSI CMOS sensor and 12X zoom, the ELPH 190 IS with a 20MP CCD and 10X zoom, and the basic ELPH 180 with an 8X zoom and digital image stabilization. Canon updates midrange superzoom lineup with 20MP PowerShot SX540 and SX420

Canon has refreshed its midrange superzoom lineup with the new PowerShot SX540 HS and SX420 IS. The former has the same design and 24-1200mm lens as the SX530 that came before it but adds more pixels and processing power, 1080/60p video and a new feature which keeps a subject centered at full telephoto. The SX420 follows in the footsteps of the SX410 and offers a 20MP CCD, 24-1008mm lens, 720p video and Wi-Fi with NFC. Read more

In Fine Detail: Canon EOS 5DS / 5DS R In-Depth Review

Canon has added to its EOS 5D range with the launch of two 50MP cameras, the 5DS and the 5DS R. Both cameras are high-resolution full frame models, primarily aimed at stills photographers. The only difference between the models is that the 'S' has an optical low-pass filter, while the 'S R' has a self-cancelling filter (the same relationship as Nikon's D800 and D800E models shared). Canon's Q3 financial results show increased profit, decline in ILC sales volume

Canon's Imaging Systems business has reported its third quarter sales fell by ¥26.5bn ($220m), compared to the same time last year. The company blamed a decline in worldwide demand for its interchangeable lens cameras 'due to market shrinkage,' with unit sales down 17% year-on-year, despite sales increases in Japan and Europe. Phottix launches Laso Transmitter and Receiver for Canon flashes

Phottix has launched its Laso Flash Trigger System today for the Canon RT Wireless radio flash system and the camera maker's non-radio E-TTL flashes. Canon plans high-res future with 120MP DSLR and 8K Cinema EOS in development

Canon is clearly in a forward-looking frame of mind: announcing more development projects that it has under way. These include a 120MP DSLR and a Cinema EOS camera that can shoot 8K video. Shooting with the Canon PowerShot G3 X

We've been shooting with the Canon PowerShot G3 X for a few days now. Canon's latest high-end compact offers a 20MP sensor and 24-600mm equivalent zoom lens, with a touch-sensitive LCD screen and optional EVF. The G3 X occupies something of a niche in the long-zoom category, offering a longer lens than its 1-inch sensor competitors but without some of the extras, like a built-in viewfinder and 4K video. Kenko updates Teleplus tele-converters to record EXIF data for Canon EOS bodies

Kenko has introduced updated versions of its Teleplus teleconverters for lenses in the Canon EOS EF and EF-S fits with new circuitry that allows EXIF data from the lens in use to be recorded by the body. The Teleplus 2.0x HD DGX and 1.4x HD DGX converters use Hoya glass and offer full autofocusing facilities when matched with lenses with a wide enough maximum aperture. Read more

 

DxOMark: EOS 5DS/R sensor is highest-ranked Canon sensor yet

DxOMark published its report on the 50MP sensor in the Canon's EOS 5DS and 5DS R. They're the best-performing Canon sensors to date, offering massive resolution along along with small dynamic range improvements. Canon PIXMA MG3620 can print photos directly from social networks

Canon has introduced a new printer that can print images directly from Instagram and other social networks. The PIXMA MG3620 Wireless Inkjet all-in-one printer works with the Canon PRINT app for iOS and Android to both access and print from Instagram accounts, as well as other online services like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, OneDrive, Evernote, Google Drive, Photobucket, and Dropbox. Canon introduces 430EX III-RT Speedlite

Canon has introduced its 430EX III-RT midrange Speedlite. This is the company's second flash to support radio-based wireless TTL, which offers longer ranges, more flexible positioning, and no line-of-sight requirement like traditional optical wireless flash systems. The 430EX III-RT is also faster, lighter and features refined rear controls, more custom settings, and a built-in catchlight panel. Canon warns about dangers of counterfeit camera gear

Canon made an announcement this week warning of counterfeit 600EX-RT flash units being sold as the real deal. Equally as disconcerting as the idea of being ripped off is that these counterfeits are also incredibly difficult to tell apart from the real thing. Read more

DxO OpticsPro 10.4.2 released with Canon EOS 5DS/R support

DxO has introduced OpticsPro 10.4.2, adding Raw support for Canon's EOS 5DS and 5DS R. Also added are 789 new camera/lens combination correction profiles. Updates for DxO FilmPack and DxO ViewPoint also make those applications fully compatible with Photoshop CC 2015. Read more

Tamron and Sigma offer firmware update service for Canon EOS 5DS/5DS R live view issues

Tamron and Sigma have both announced updates for their lenses to provide full compatibility with Canon's EOS 5DS and 5DS R models. Both firmware updates refer to behavior in live view shooting, something that has also caused problems in the Rebel T6s and T6i. This suggests that Canon's latest models feature a change in the way they drive lenses. Read more

Production Canon EOS 5DS and 5DS R added to studio test scene

We've updated our Canon EOS 5DS/5DS R First Impressions to include studio test samples from final production versions of the cameras. The 5DS and 5DS R share a 50MP full-frame CMOS sensor and are identical in every way except for one: the 5DS contains an anti-aliasing filter, while the 5DS R has a self-canceling filter. While we've previously tested a beta version of the 5DS R, we've finally been able to put final production versions of the two cameras through our studio. Read more

Final firmware Canon EOS 5DSR real-world samples posted

Last night the Northern Lights tip-toed farther south than they usually do, and many regions of North America not accustomed to seeing them were treated to a light show. In hopes of catching it we hopped in the car with the Canon EOS 5DSR and headed away from the city lights. Eye for an 'i': Canon EOS Rebel T6i review posted

The Canon EOS Rebel T6i (750D) bears a passing resemblance to its Rebel T6s (760D) sibling, but it's a different enough camera to warrant a separate review. Although it shares the same 24.2MP APS-C sensor and 19-point all cross-type AF module as its more expensive sibling, its Hybrid CMOS AF III implementation lacks continuous AF in live view. It also doesn't offer the higher-end controls of the T6s. Does the Rebel T6i hit all the right notes for a beginning photographer? Read more

Canon EOS Rebel T6i Review
The greatest Rebel yet. That's a phrase we mutter about once a year. This time, we really mean it, and by a factor of two. The Canon EOS Rebel T6i, as well as it's companion, the T6s (known as the 750D and 760D outside of the US) both feature a new 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor (up from 18MP on the T5i / 700D) coupled with a new 7560 pixel RGB + IR metering sensor for more accurate metering. Although both cameras are very similar there are also distinct differences, so each will get it's own review. You can read about the T6s here.
