Travel notices are designed to inform travelers and clinicians about current health issues related to specific destinations.   • Polio in Burma (Myanmar) December 21, 2015 Burma has reported 2 cases of vaccine-derived polio, which can develop and circulate in areas with low vaccination coverage where oral polio vaccine (OPV) is used.   • MERS in the Arabian Peninsula November 19, 2015 Cases of MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) have been identified in multiple countries in the Arabian Peninsula. There have also been cases in several other countries in travelers who have been to the Arabian Peninsula and, in some instances, their close contacts. Read More >>
  • Polio in Nigeria November 16, 2015 According to Global Polio Eradication Initiative, one vaccine-derived poliovirus case was identified in Nigeria in May 2015. CDC recommends that all travelers to Nigeria be fully vaccinated against polio. Read More >>
  • Polio in Madagascar November 03, 2015 According to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Madagascar has reported 9 cases of vaccine-derived polio. CDC recommends that all travelers to Madagascar be fully vaccinated against polio. In addition, adults who have been fully vaccinated should receive a single lifetime booster dose of polio vaccine.   • Updated  Ebola in Sierra Leone December 29, 2015 CDC no longer recommends that US residents practice enhanced precautions when traveling to Sierra Leone. Although there is believed to be no risk of Ebola to travelers, travelers should, as usual, avoid contact with sick people, dead bodies, or blood and body fluids. Read More >>
  • Updated  Ebola in Liberia December 29, 2015 CDC is no longer recommending that US residents practice enhanced precautions when traveling to Liberia. Although there is believed to be little risk of Ebola to travelers, travelers should, as usual, avoid contact with sick people, dead bodies, or blood and body fluids.   • Chikungunya in Central America November 19, 2015 In June 2014, El Salvador reported locally transmitted cases for the first time in Central America. Local transmission means that mosquitoes in the area have been infected with chikungunya and are spreading it to people. Local transmission of chikungunya is now being reported in other countries in Central America. CDC recommends that travelers to the Central America protect themselves from mosquito bites.   • Avian Flu (H7N9) in China November 19, 2015 According to the World Health Organization, 667 cases and 229 deaths from H7N9 flu have been reported globally from March 2013 through October 14, 2015, most from the mainland of China. Smaller numbers of cases have been identified in travelers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Canada. CDC advises people traveling to China to avoid contact with poultry (including poultry markets and farms), birds, and their droppings. There are no recommendations against travel to China.   • H5N1 Bird Flu in Egypt November 19, 2015 CDC recommends that travelers to Egypt protect themselves from H5N1 by avoiding contact with wild birds, live or uncooked poultry, and body fluids from birds and poultry. Read More >>
  • Chikungunya in South America November 19, 2015 In December 2013, French Guiana reported locally transmitted cases for the first time in South America. Local transmission means that mosquitoes in the area have been infected with chikungunya and are spreading it to people.   • Chikungunya in Senegal September 18, 2015 CDC recommends that travelers to Senegal protect themselves from chikungunya by preventing mosquito bites. Some travelers may be more likely to get chikungunya, have severe disease, or be at higher risk for chikungunya for other reasons. CDC advises travelers in high-risk groups to discuss their travel plans with their health care provider. Read More >>
  • Chikungunya in the Pacific Islands July 06, 2015 The Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PacNet) has reported local transmission of chikungunya in several islands in the central and south Pacific Ocean. Local transmission means that mosquitoes in the area have been infected with chikungunya and are spreading it to people. Read More >>
  • Chikungunya in the Caribbean May 14, 2015 In December 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported cases of chikungunya in Saint Martin. Additional cases were reported in other islands in the Caribbean. This is the first time that local transmission of chikungunya has been reported in the Americas.
