'Suicide Squad's Reshoots to Last Three Weeks

6 April 2016 11:56 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Reshoots have become a typical part of Hollywood blockbusters. Where they used to be a red flag of a bad film, they are now used to polish the rough edges in an otherwise solid film. Marvel has used them extensively in their films, and even a film like Avengers: Age Of Ultron had two weeks of reshoots.

Now, rumor has it that not only is WB hard at work with some reshoots on their upcoming DC film Suicide Squad, but that they are looking to lighten the tone of the film so that it's more fun for mainstream audiences to watch. Granted, it's almost impossible to tell, based on a schedule alone, but we are now hearing that the film is facing three weeks of reshoots.

@BatmanNewsCom talking to people on set today they said the studio "made him do reshoots" because it was too dark. Interesting words.

Film Review: ‘Pandemic’

1 April 2016 1:27 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Z-word is never spoken here, but director John Suits and scenarist Dustin T. Benson’s energetic actioner might as well have Zorro’s brand on its forehead given the general premise and scaled-down resemblance to “World War Z” and the “28 Days Later … ” movies. Originality is not a major virtue here, and the decision to go almost entirely with a first-person-shooter-style subjective camera may strike viewers as more of a wearying debit than an identification-heightening plus. Nonetheless, this is a solid if not quite memorable entry in the ever-expanding canon of survivalist undead cinema. Opening in limited release on April 1, it will doubtless reach a wider genre-fan public via home formats when released to VOD and iTunes on April 5.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” and “True Grit” producer and financier Skydance has snagged $700 million in new financing.

It plans to use the funding to grow its feature film, television and interactive businesses. The raise includes a $500 million line of credit and $200 million in equity from a consortium of existing shareholders. The new credit facility was arranged by JPMorgan Chase.

Skydance is the brainchild of David Ellison, son of billionaire Oracle Corp. chairman Larry Ellison and brother of Megan Ellison, the founder of Annapurna Pictures. Unlike his sister, who has focused intently on filmmaker-driven projects from the likes of David O. Russell and Paul Thomas Anderson, David Ellison has kept a hand firmly in the tentpole game. Past projects include hits such as “Star Trek Into Darkness” and “World War Z,” as well as disappointments like “Terminator Genisys,” which stumbled in its attempts to relaunch the cyborg franchise. Budget slashed on final Divergent film after Allegiant flops at the box office

22 March 2016 5:30 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

After the runaway success of many Ya adaptations over the last few years, it was just a matter of time before their appeal died down and after The Divergent Series: Allegiant opened to poor box-office last weekend, it seems the strain is well and truly showing on the sub-genre.

Debuting last week, Lionsgate’s third Divergent film, Allegiant, grossed just $29.1 million which has caused the company and its investors to feel particularly unhappy at the results. And as such, the fourth and final film in the series, Ascendant, will now have its budget slashed in the wake of its lacklustre opening. Shares in Lionsgate also fell in the wake of the opening, down $35 to $22.

Ascendant is set to start shooting sometime this summer, and is the second part of the final book which was split into two films, mirroring the similar decisions taken on the final Harry Potter and Hunger Games instalments, »

Editorial: Making The Best Of Sony's Venom

19 March 2016 4:59 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

- Yes Folks, This Is What Sony's Original Plans Might Have Possibly Looked Like - The Sinister Six - Now this spin-off would've been directed by Drew Goddard, the visionary behind The Cabin In The Woods, the original showrunner/director behind Netflix's Daredevil, he's also the same guy who science'd the shit outta The Martian, found his footing with the found-footage movie Cloverfield, and helped write a 2-hour Pepsi commercial called World War Z. Drew's Sinister-6 movie would've seen the likes of Otto Octavius, Adrian Toomes, Flint Marko, and Kraven the Hunter teaming up based on a shared hatred for a certain arachnid do-gooder, and battling Happy Madison's direct-to-Netflix spaghetti western The Ridiculous 6 in a copyright infringment lawsuit. Of all the problems people had with this project being announced, I guess the most reasonable gripe is that a bunch of old white dudes wearing mech-suits don't make for very compelling protagonists, »

Ruth Negga: ‘I never fitted anywhere – in life or in Hollywood’

17 March 2016 10:07 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

From small parts in 12 Years a Slave and Misfits to starring roles in AMC’s upcoming TV series Preacher and hotly tipped new films Iona and Loving, the actor talks industry diversity and complex characters

On a bright winter morning, actor Ruth Negga sits in the corner of a Soho restaurant, arms folded over a jumper on which two embroidered swifts are wheeling across a grey sky. Although she had small parts in 12 Years a Slave and World War Z, and recurring ones in Misfits and Marvel’s Agents of Shield, she enjoys relative anonymity. This time next year – after the release of a film (Loving) that has already been named a contender for the Oscars, as well as a TV series (Preacher) from the makers of Breaking Bad – it will not be so easy.

Yet Negga, 33, does not appear to be at ease today. She speaks cautiously, in a gentle Limerick lilt, »

'Queen Mimi' Photos: Meet Zach Galifianakis' Biggest Inspiration | Exclusive

16 March 2016 11:00 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marie 'Mimi' Haist may not be a household name, but to Santa Monica, California locals, she's considered royalty, of sorts. This spring, her inspiring story will be told in the documentary Queen Mimi, arriving April 15 from XLRator Media. Today we have an exclusive look at new photos, along with the first trailer for this new film, which shows how a homeless woman inspired the likes of Zach Galifianakis and Ren&#233e Zellweger.

When you feel like a queen, even a laundromat can be a palace. Marie 'Mimi' Haist defied her adulterous husband and moved onto the streets in her 50s, living in parking lots and doorways until finding her "home" one stormy night between rows of washers in a Californian laundromat. Encouraged to stay by a more than generous laundry owner, Mimi's 'the past is the past' philosophy endeared her to regular fluff and fold clients and, after more than 20 years, »
