The 15 Biggest Golden Globes Snubs and Surprises

The Golden Globes are known for their unpredictability, and this year’s awards were among the Golden Globe-iest in that regard. While many of the top film champs, including major victories for “The Revenant,” “The Martian,” breakout ingenue Brie Larson and comeback kid Sylvester Stallone, can hardly be dubbed surprises, the TV picks were considerably more left field. And there were a couple of stunners in the movie races too.

Here are 15 of the biggest snubs and surprises from the 2016 Golden Globes:

Snub: “Carol

Though it had the most nominations of any film, Todd Haynes’ quiet period lesbian romance failed to win any awards against flashier competition like “The Revenant.” With two lead actress nominations, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara may have split the votes.

Surprise: Kate Winslet and Aaron Sorkin, “Steve Jobs

Lady Gaga Says Golden Globe Win for ‘American Horror Story’ is ‘One of the Greatest Moments of My Life’

Lady Gaga can now add Golden Globe winner to her resume.

The worldwide superstar took away the statue for best actress in a limited-series or TV movie for her role as The Countess in “American Horror Story: Hotel.”

She was up against Kirsten Dunst (“Fargo”), Sarah Hay (“Flesh & Bone”), Felicity Huffman (“American Crime”) and Queen Latifah (“Bessie”).

“I feel like Cher in that John Patrick Shanley movie ‘Moonstruck,’ Gaga said on stage during her acceptance speech. “This is one of the greatest moments of my life.”

Appearing to be genuinely surprised and taken aback, the musical phenomenon thanked each and every one of her cast members, plus “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy and her family.

Through tears, Gaga revealed,” I wanted to be an actress before I wanted to be a singer — but music worked out first.”

Backstage, Gaga told press about her “Ahs” character for which she earned her award. »

Watch the First Minute of ‘The X-Files’ Revival’

Although “The X-Files” revival premiered at Mipcom in Cannes and later showed at New York Comic-Con in October, the rest of the fans can also catch a glimpse of the show before its debut. Fox released the first minute of “The X-Files” Monday on doyoustillbelieve.com.

The clip, narrated by Fox Mulder (David Duchovny), shows a montage of old photos as Mulder details his past, explaining his obsession with aliens and search for his abducted sister. While the short clip only features photos, Mulder does mention his former partner Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson).

It’s not long before viewers will actually get to see Mulder and Scully on screen again. The first episode follows the pair as they take on a case of a possible alien abductee.

Disney Channel’s ‘The Jersey’ Star Dies at 31

Michael Galeota, who starred in Disney Channel’s “The Jersey” in the late ’90s and early ’00s, died Sunday. He was 31.

“It is with tremendous heartfelt sadness to announce the passing of Michael James Galeota on January 10th,” reads a statement on a Go Fund Me page to raise money for his burial, created by Galeota’s family.

“He was a precious gift – loving, giving, compassionate, joyful and intelligent,” the post continues. “A great inspiration for anyone that heard his genuine, humble, witty and joyful voice, or experienced his smile, laughter and love for just a moment. To know him was to love him.”

The Go Fund Me page for Galeota has currently raised nearly $9,000 of its $25,000 goal. Interestingly, the biggest donation of $5,000 comes from a donor calling his or herself “Shia L.” While there’s no confirmation of the identity of that donor, actor Shia Labeouf starred on the »

NFL Ratings Spike 11% for Opening Weekend of Playoffs

There had been some thought that concussions, domestic violence or allegations of cheating would slow down the NFL ratings machine this season, but nothing could be further from the truth.

On the heels of a regular season that saw three of the network’s four television partners post ratings gains vs. the previous year, the first round of the league’s postseason action saw meaningful growth vs. 2015. In Nielsen’s overnight ratings representing 56 of the nation’s largest markets, this weekend’s quartet of wild-card games averaged a 20.4 household rating — up 11% from last year’s 18.3.

The top-rated game of the weekend was the 4:40 p.m. Et kickoff on Sunday between the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins on Fox (pictured), which averaged a 23.6 overnight rating, the highest for any program since last year’s Super Bowl. Worlds are colliding with “Supergirl’s” latest casting announcement: Laura Vandervoort, who played Supergirl on “Smallville,” will join the cast of the CBS drama.

Vandervoort will play Indigo, based on the DC Comics character. The “Supergirl” producers describe Indigo as a living, strong-willed supercomputer that was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton. Now that she’s on Earth, nothing will stand in her way.
