The Buzz: Arriving nearly two years to the day after the original, Ride Along 2 is critic-proof winter fare that will probably be at least twice as funny as Daddy's Home. Hats off to Ice Cube for capping off a major year with Straight Outta Compton and the revival of his barbershop. We'd really go for another Friday most of all, though.

Certificate R   -   Action | Drama | Thriller | War

Metascore: 48/100 (33 reviews)
An American Ambassador is killed during an attack at a U.S. compound in Libya as a security team struggles to make sense out of the chaos.

The Buzz: Admittedly, we're a bit churned up inside by the idea of Michael Bay directing an action movie based on a complex and sensitive political event from recent history; we'd feel a bit better if he went further back in time if he must direct another war movie. The fact that the movie has caused zero controversy is part of the reason we're so apprehensive about it.

Certificate PG   -   Animation | Adventure | Comedy | Family

Metascore: 24/100 (15 reviews)
Displaced from their Arctic home, a polar bear named Norm and his three lemming friends wind up in New York City, where Norm becomes the mascot of a corporation he soon learns is tied to the fate of his homeland.

The Buzz: They might not be able to stop their Arctic home from falling into the ocean, but this polar bear and his lemming friends can celebrate a tiny bit: Their movie was originally set to go direct-to-video but a theatrical released was secured. Not bad timing considering Alvin and co. have stalled out at the box office and the only other family competition is The Force Awakens. Really though, it will be a surprise if the movie lands in the top 10 this weekend.

The Buzz: With enthusiastic reviews from the film-festival set, The Brothers Nee might have an indie hit on their hands, even if success comes once the stay-at-home audience discovers their future-tripping tale of what befalls the grown-up Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Something tells us additional articles will be written at the end of the year championing the movie ICYMI.

The Buzz: Richard Gere gets eely in this thriller from writer/director Andrew Renzi, who is making his feature debut. The presence of Dakota Fanning and Theo James should help the movie stand out a bit as it hits streaming sites, and we at the point where we're hoping Gere chooses a starring role in a TV series soon so we can see more of him. The choices he's taken of late have been interesting (especially Time Out of Mind) despite failing to find commercial success.

Certificate R   -   Comedy

Metascore: 39/100 (10 reviews)
After failing to locate the legendary Stanley Kubrick, an unstable CIA agent (Ron Perlman) must instead team up with a seedy rock band manager (Rupert Grint) to develop the biggest con of all time-staging the moon landing.

The Buzz: There have certainly been plenty of conspiracy theories to go around about the U.S. moon landing in the late 1960s. One of the more fanciful, if not entertaining, premises is that famed director Stanley Kubrick was employed by the CIA to stage this landmark event of the 20th century. This raucous comedy, helmed by Antoine Bardou-Jacquet, spins an edgy and fun game of "What if?" Ron Perlman plays a stiff CIA agent charged with finding Kubrick, and Rupert Grint plays the questionable rock band manager he's forced to team with - in a role that resides in a galaxy far, far removed from the Harry Potter universe. - Bret Federigan

A group of aid workers work to resolve a crisis in an armed conflict zone.

The Buzz: On paper this sort of comedy seems hard to pull off, but we're happy to see Mondays in the Sun director Fernando León de Aranoa attempting to find humor in the middle of a war zone.
