DC Weekly: Real-Life Batpod and 'Dark Knight III' Issue 2 Review

Welcome to the DC Weekly, where every week we cover the land of DC comics, TV, and movies. Be it random bits of news, TV show reactions, or miscellaneous reviews or speculation, you can be sure to get your DC fix here!

This Week I talk about a real-life Batpod! Sort of… From there, I talk about “Legends of Tomorrow,” and finish off with a review of issue two of “Dark Knight III: The Master Race.”

News-LETSReal-Life Batpod

Have you ever watched “The Dark Knight” and wished you could have your very own Batpod? Of course you have, but like most things in our favorite comic book movies, that's nothing but a pipe dream -- the stuff of fairy tales. Well, if a recent patent from Ford is any indication, that dream could be closer than we think. Kind of… a bit… Okay, admittedly it's still a stretch.

Leonardo DiCaprio Was Close to play 'Spider-Man' for James Cameron

31 December 2015 5:00 AM, PST

Spiderman News posted an excerpt from Empire Magazine containing an interview with prolific actor Leonardo DiCaprio for his new film, "The Revenant." During the interview DiCaprio revealed that he was in discussions with director James Cameron for a "Spider-Man" film 20 years ago saying on how close he was to getting the part:

“Not very close, but there was a screenplay. I know he was semi-serious about doing it at some point, but I don’t remember any further talks about it. We had a couple of chats. I think there was a screenplay that I read, but I don’t remember. This was 20 years ago!”

Cameron was developing a "Spider-Man" film well before "The Evil Dead" director Sam Raimi came on board to direct Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man" with actor Tobey Maguire.

The "Avatar" director was also considering casting his "Terminator" star Arnold Schwarzenegger to portray Spider-Man's nemesis Doctor Otto Octavius aka Dr. »

Early Test Screening Review for 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' hits the Net

30 December 2015 3:50 PM, PST

Alright, this one may seem as a stretch to most of you (it was to me, at first), but apparently a select few people managed to see an early screening for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." One of those people took to Reddit to give a type of review about what he thought of the film. Now, the review is extremely positive. There isn't exactly one negative thing said about the film by this individual, so they may have already had their mind made up about the movie beforehand when they went and saw it. Or, the film's just that good. I've only included his partially review, as the entire thing could possibly spoil a lot of stuff for the people who aren't to privy to those things. Check out the non-spoiler stuff below, and click the link to his full review if you feel so inclined.

One of the first few topics regarding Gotg 2 that was brought, were the possibility of new characters showing up in the movie, and what Thanos is building up to.

“There've been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics and we'll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie. . . I wouldn't look too hard in that movie for Thanos. The next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It will be, 'Oh, that's why they've been teasing this villain for five years!”

Feige also talked about "Thor: Ragnarok," and what the film's subtitle means, and how the film is set »

30 December 2015 2:12 PM, PST

All comic book characters are complex.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Chiwetel Ejiofor talked about his character, Baron Mordo, who is another trained sorcerer in “Doctor Strange.” Mordo is mentored with Doctor Strange by the mysterious Ancient One.

“In terms of his life with the Ancient One, it’s this long and intense relationship they have that’s just very deep and very connected,” said Ejiofor. “I think they both recognize in Strange this certain quality that they feel is going to be very useful in a situation they’re in — just by the nature of who he is, and the way that he operates, and the way his mind works, and the certain skill set and personality that he has. So, when they all meet, they realize that he’s somebody that can be plugged into this very surreal, interesting, sort of fascinating circumstance that they’re all in, »

Paramount and CBS Fires First Shots at ‘Star Trek: Axanar’

30 December 2015 11:57 AM, PST

There may be a hull breach into “Star Trek: Axanar.”

The crowdfunded Star Trek indie film raised over a million dollar had generated plenty of publicity in the past year. The project even recruited notable names to the project including Richard Hatch, Tony Todd and Kate Vernon.

If Paramount Pictures and CBS have anything to do with it—they’ll make sure it won’t even be on the launching pad.

Last week, the studios filed a lawsuit in California federal court that “Star Trek: Axanar” is a violation of their intellectual property.

"The Axanar Works infringe Plaintiffs’ works by using innumerable copyrighted elements of Star Trek, including its settings, characters, species, and themes," written in the complaint.

Producer Alec Peters pitched the film to investors that it is not a fan film, but will be a high-quality Star Trek film with a fully-professional crew. Earlier this year, »

Marvelous DA7E: Strange Time Hints and Phase 3 Details

30 December 2015 11:27 AM, PST

There’s been a lot of to-do in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe this week, it’s just been spread across different publications. The one that seems to be getting the most Doctor Strange info seems to be Entertainment Weekly, which debuted the first official photos of Benedict Cumberbatch as Strange as well as some new concept art.

Like this one, which is my desktop background for Mondays.

This is after the car crash that takes Strange’s hands that sends him on his quest to find different ways to heal...Magical ways. It will eventually lead him to Mordo and The Ancient One, the latter played by Tilda Swinton. Instead of being an offensive orientalized figure like The Ancient One first appeared in the comics, it looks like Marvel is doing something interesting with Tilda Swinton. For lack of a better term, I guess I’d call it progressive whitewashing. »

John Ridley Talks About his Secret Marvel Project for ABC

30 December 2015 11:02 AM, PST

John Ridley is currently developing the second season for ABC's "American Crime" series. While talking to Collider about the project, he also went on to partially talk about his secret television project he's working on for Marvel Studios. Nothing is known about the series, or what character (or characters) it will focus on, but from the way Ridley talks about the project, the series will be in the same vain as the Marvel Netflix series, with a lot of quality and production put behind it.

"I grew up reading graphic novels, which back then were comic books. I’ve written some. I have kids who, with as much social impact that American Crime or 12 Year A Slave has, they could not care less. They’re just at that age. Back in the day, when I was growing up with things like Star Wars and Superman, they were quality work. We »

Pixar's 'Finding Dory': Two New Characters Revealed!

30 December 2015 8:50 AM, PST

Memorable characters has always been one of the key staples of the Pixar film. Say what you will about their lesser works, but they've always had an eye and ear for interesting personalities. This, of course, will be doubly important for their latest film, "Finding Dory." Following up any film with a sequel is always a huge task, as fans will forever compare it on the merits of the original. This goes double for "Finding Dory," as it follows up "Finding Nemo," a movie that is perhaps considered one of Pixar's strongest pieces of work.

It has big shoes to fill, and one of the key ways of doing that is creating characters that live up to the fun and spirit of the first film. To accomplish this, Pixar turned to actors Ty Burrell ("Modern Family") and Kaitlin Olson ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") to bring to life a beluga whale named Bailey, »

Why Leonardo DiCaprio Didn't End Up in 'Batman Forever,' 'Spider-Man,' or the 'Star Wars' Prequels

30 December 2015 8:15 AM, PST

Without a doubt, Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the greatest acting talents working in Hollywood today. Many moviegoers may have first noticed him in James Cameron's 1998 blockbuster hit "Titanic," but even that film didn't do much to foreshadow the magnificent career he would have. Whereas many actors would have gone the more mainstream and predictable route following a movie like "Titanic," Leo did not.

"A lot of people may look at what I’ve done career-wise and say that there was a period in which I tried to possibly become a movie star, per se, [and] tried to go for much bigger pictures," the actor told Short List.

"The truth of the matter is, there was a period of time, very early on, when I started watching films and having heroes in the industry, actor-wise. But I feel I’ve been consistent about my dreams and what I wanted to be as an actor. »
