Prof. Sir Nigel Rodley – United Kingdom
Nigel Rodley is currently serving his third term as Commissioner. He was first elected to the Commission in 2003 and re-elected in 2008 and 2013. In 2012 he was also elected President. He served as a member of the Executive Committee from 2004-2006. He is a Council member of JUSTICE, the British Section of the International Commission of Jurists. He is a Professor of Law and Chair of the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex. Since 2001 he has been a Member of the UN Human Rights Committee (Chairperson 2013-2014). From 1993-2001 he served as UN Commission on Human Rights Special Rapporteur on Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment. Between 1973-1990 he was Legal Advisor and Head of the Legal and Intergovernmental Organizations Office of Amnesty International, as well as part-time lecturer at the London School of Economics. For his “services to human rights and international law”, he was knighted in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list in 1998. He studied law at the University of Leeds, New York University and Columbia University.

Robert Goldman was elected to the Executive Committee in 2008 and has served as Vice President since September 2014. He is Professor of Law at the Washington College of Law, American University. He is also co-director of the university’s Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and Faculty Director of the War Crimes Research Office. From 1996 – 2004 he was a member of the Organization of American States’ Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and its President in 1999. From 2004-2005 he was the UN Human Rights Commission’s Independent Expert on the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism. He is the author of numerous publications and has taught in several universities throughout the world. He studied law at University of Virginia Law School.

Michèle Rivet has been serving as Vice President since 2011. She was elected to the Executive Committee in 2008 and first elected as Commissioner in 2003 and re-elected in 2008. She has been involved with the Canadian Section of the ICJ for many years, serving as its President from 1996 to 2001. Now Member of the Quebec Bar as a lawyer, she is a visiting professor at University of Sherbrooke. She was a judge from 1980 to 2010. She served, from 1990 to 2010 as first President of the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal. From 1991 – 1995 she was Vice President, and then President of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice. She studied law at the University of Montreal and the University of Paris. In 2005, she received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Ottawa for her contribution to the development of Human Rights. In 2011, the Quebec Court honored her with their gold Medal. In 2015, the Quebec Bar gave er their Annual Merit Award.
