Sharing the mission and vision of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) to promote human rights through the rule of law, ICJ-European Institutions works to bring the concerns of the ICJ to the attention of institutions and bodies of the European Union and Council of Europe, and advocates to strengthen standards and mechanisms for the protection of human rights at European level.

At the Council of Europe level, ICJ-European Institutions advocates for a strong and effective European Court of Human Rights and for full, prompt and effective implementation of European Court judgments.

ICJ-European Institutions co-operates in third party interventions before the European Court of Human Rights, and contributes to the ICJ’s work on standard setting and policy development of the Council of Europe.

At the EU level, ICJ-European Institutions advocates for the enhanced protection of human rights and the rule of law in EU laws, policies, standards and practices.

It works to inform the EU legislative process with analysis of international human rights law and standards, and engages with the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and EU Agencies.
