Christmas Day is heralding yet another record for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Disney’s space saga is smashing the Christmas record with estimates of at least $40 million at 4,134 U.S. theaters on Friday. That will easily exceed the earlier record of $24.6 million from “Sherlock Holmes,” which opened on Dec. 25, 2009.

“The Force Awakens” is expected to take in as much as $145 million this weekend, which will push its U.S. total past $500 million. The space saga racked up $391.1 million in its first week — obliterating the record of $296.2 million set in June by the first week of “Jurassic World.”

Paramount’s Will Ferrell-Mark Wahlberg comedy “Daddy’s Home” looked likely to lead the rest of the pack at U.S. multiplexes with as much as $30 million. It  took in a solid $1.2 million in preview screenings on Christmas Eve at 1,920 locations and is on pace to pull in at least »

Disney woke up to a nice gift this Christmas morning as its animated family film The Good Dinosaur became the studio’s sixth film this year to cross the $100M mark. The not-so-little critters now step into the same club as Cinderella, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Inside Out, Ant-Man and, of course, Star Wars: The Force Awakens (which has the distinction of reaching the $100M mark faster than any film in history). The latest Star Wars crossed that plateau in Friday… »

The Only Way Natalie Dormer Would Do A Hunger Games Prequel

25 December 2015 6:37 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The Hunger Games franchise is one still capable of printing money. Even though Mockingjay: Part 2 had had the smallest box office of any of the movies in the series, it’s still a top 10 movie as far as this year’s box office is concerned. This means that there's interest in continuing the franchise in one form or another. Several members of the cast and crew have spoken out about their interest in such an idea. Now Natalie Dormer has added her voice to those saying that the only way they’d be interested in another movie was if the author of the book series is involved. Natalie Dormer was asked about a Hunger Games prequel as part of the press for her new horror movie The Forest. She told Entertainment Weekly that any new movie would need to be based on an idea »

We all know how annoying it is when a cell phone goes off during the middle of a movie. Now, imagine how much more bothersome it is for a cell to go off during the shooting of a movie. Just think of some actor giving a scene their all, the lighting is perfect, and right before they […]

How Robin Fits Into Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

24 December 2015 4:40 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

As we continue to mark off the days to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (90 and counting), one of the big questions that remains unanswered is what role, if any, the Dark Knight's sidekick, Robin, will play in Zack Snyder's movie. There was a Robin tease at the end of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, but with Ben Affleck's Batman being an older version of the masked vigilante, how the Boy Wonder fits into the puzzle has been a much speculated on topic, though a new report may shed some light on the matter. There are potential Spoilers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. You've been warned. In one of the earlier trailers for Dawn of Justice, we saw what appears to be something of a shrine to a fallen Robin. The empty suit has been vandalized with the inscription, "Ha Ha Ha, »

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg vie for supremacy in a formulaic comedy that raises the odd laugh

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg famously teamed up on screen in Adam McKay’s The Other Guys, in which they played two bickering NYC cops haplessly attempting to become heroes, one supposedly nerdy, the other apparently tough. The result, although wildly uneven, was funnier than expected, a weird slapstick car crash of a movie that somehow made the most of its mismatched central comic pairing. Here, the odd couple once again play chalk and cheese roles as (respectively) the stepfather and biological father of two children, who become locked in a battle for parental supremacy. While Ferrell’s dorky Brad is consistently cold-shouldered by the kids (the daughter draws cute family pictures that involve her mother’s new husband being variously ostracised, injured or killed), Wahlberg’s excitingly disreputable Dusty gets hugs and »
