Film Review: ‘Ted 2’ is a Funnier Film Than it Deserves to Be

25 June 2015 5:52 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – While it’s cruder and it can’t quite match the original “Ted,” “Ted 2” is still funnier than it has any right to be. It is unmistakably a Seth MacFarlane production, and there are a million reasons why this movie shouldn’t work, chief among them a plot that attempts to plop a foul mouthed talking teddy bear into a moralistic legal parable about civil rights. But I can’t deny I laughed throughout, almost despite myself.

Rating: 3.5/5.0

It’s less a movie than a collection of scenes strung back to back. After an elaborate and largely joyless Busby Berkeley inspired title sequence, the plot revolves around Ted and new wife Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth). When they try to adopt a baby, the government challenges Ted’s personhood and declares him property instead. So Ted and buddy Mark Wahlberg enlist a pot-smoking civil rights lawyer (Amanda Seyfried) to take his case, »

'Ted 2' Review: Rude, Crude and Still Very Funny

25 June 2015 4:40 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Ted 2 doesn't hold a candle to the original film, but it entertains enough to warrant a trip to the theater. It could be that the initial premise has lost its luster and that the audience expects more from the story. The pacing is a bit slow and the laughs are mostly middling, but there are some genuine moments of knockdown hilarity. The comedy is what you expect from Seth McFarlane; juvenile, lewd, profane, with sexual antics galore. Anyone seeing this film knows what to expect, so they shouldn't be surprised or offended by anything this talking teddy bear says.

Ted 2 begins with the marriage of Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) and Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth). The not so innocent bride and plushy groom are madly in love. Alas all has not turned out well for best buddy John (Mark Wahlberg), who's recently divorced and taking up unhealthy porn fixations. »

Mark Wahlberg: I dreaded the semen scene in 'Ted 2'

25 June 2015 12:53 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

"Ted 2" is bigger than "Ted" in almost every conceivable way: Its slapstick scenes are wilder, the list of guest-stars is more staggering, and the runtime ticks closer to two hours. But the critical elements -- the wisecreacking CGI teddy bear voiced by Seth MacFarlane, his "thunder buddy" camaraderie with John (Mark Wahlberg), and a dastardly performance by Giovanni Ribisi -- remain intact.  We caught up with Wahlberg, who phoned us from a UK press tour to talk about why he likes "Ted 2" better than the original. Here are seven things he taught us about the filming experience, the difference between Mila Kunis and Amanda Seyfried, and the most intimidating actors he's ever worked with.  1. "Transformers" made the act of talking to an invisible teddy bear a lot easier.  On filming with a CGI costar: "We definitely had on-the-job training with the first 'Ted.' Doing 'Transformers" made that a lot less nerve-wracking. »

Mark Wahlberg, Patrick Stewart Praise Seth MacFarlane’s Originality at ‘Ted 2′ Premiere

25 June 2015 10:20 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

When Universal Pictures gave creator-director-star Seth MacFarlane the greenlight to make a sequel to his surprise hit “Ted” after it grossed nearly $550 million at the worldwide box office in 2012 to become the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time, he vowed to make the tale about a man (Mark Wahlberg) and his foul-mouthed teddy bear as smart, witty and fun as the original despite the enormous expectations.

“To be honest, there was some personal pressure, but my goal was to tell a completely new story and not rehash the same movie twice,” MacFarlane told Variety at the world premiere of “Ted 2″ held at New York’s Ziegfeld Theatre on Wednesday. “We wanted to do an entirely new story that explores an entirely new aspect of Ted’s life and evolve the character with funny jokes. Ted fighting for his civil rights is different than the smaller relationships story that »

Movie Review – Ted 2 (2015)

24 June 2015 9:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Ted 2, 2015.

Directed by Seth MacFarlane.

Starring Seth MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Jessica Barth, Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson.

Synopsis:

Newlywed couple Ted and Tami-Lynn want to have a baby, but in order to qualify to be a parent, Ted will have to prove he’s a person in a court of law.

Seth MacFarlane has an unusual gift for injecting heart into outlandishly vulgar and crass material. Over the years, his success through television and filmmaking have come from a very discernible brand of humor; no topic is off-limits and he will fearlessly deliver a heavy-handed message about society smack dab in the middle of a world that makes no sense and is inhabited by imaginative, colorful characters.

One such example is Ted (Seth MacFarlane), a toy teddy bear come to life after being wished so by his best friend John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), and in »

Review: 'Ted 2' suffers from comedy sequelitis and overreaches to lesser impact

24 June 2015 9:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The first "Ted" was a pivotal moment for Seth MacFarlane. It was his first live-action project, and it was a chance to see if he could successfully launch a whole new empire, one that stood separate from "Family Guy." While I didn't love "Ted," I thought it was a solid step for MacFarlane as a filmmaker. His second live-action film, "A Million Ways To Die In The West"? Less so. I'm already ambivalent about MacFarlane, so adding the extra pressure of my belief that comedy sequels are almost uniformly unsuccessful, and I didn't have very high hopes for "Ted 2" at all. I can report that it is pretty much exactly what I thought a "Ted" sequel would be, complete with a larger canvass and diminishing returns on some of the laughs. Like most comedy sequels, it is too long and too indulgent in calling back to the original film. »

Film Review: ‘Ted 2′

24 June 2015 4:00 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The magical teddy bear with the heart of gold and the mouth of potty is back in “Ted 2,” and so is writer-director-star Seth MacFarlane’s mischievous mojo, which went missing somewhere in last year’s mirthless comic Western “A Million Ways to Die in the West.” A sequel to MacFarlane’s surprise 2013 smash ($549 million worldwide), “Ted 2” is surely the last movie one would expect to find quoting from the anthropologist Dawn Prince-Hughes’ writings on the essence of human consciousness. But in its own, sweetly subversive way, this might be just the tolerance plea America needs right now — a movie that says, in effect, “Love thy plushie as thyself.” Fret not: Such high-mindedness has little diminished MacFarlane’s appetite for locker-room humor, gross-out sight gags and bounteous pop-culture in-jokes, which should make “Ted 2” the season’s go-to attraction for arrested-adolescent males of all ages, and continue Universal’s beary good summer box office. »

Seth MacFarlane and Mark Wahlberg are still pals in 3 new Ted 2 clips

Mark Wahlberg and his favourite foul-mouthed teddy are back in this month’s Ted 2.

This time around, Ted and Tami-Lynn have plans to expand their non-traditional family by having a baby. Somehow, the most complicated part of this human-teddy bear reunion is the fact that Ted needs to prove in a court of law that he is in fact a person. Amanda Seyfried stars as his lawyer, who is comically named Sam L. Jackson.

Seth MacFarlane is back as the voice of the titular Ted, along with Giovanni Ribisi, Morgan Freeman, and Jessica Barth. We’ve got some new clips from the movie that show that John and Ted’s thunder buddy relationship is as strong as ever.

Amazon Is Reportedly Courting A New Show From Bryan Cranston, David Shore

22 June 2015 12:20 PM, PDT | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Amazon Instant Video may have a new pilot to test with viewers. The streaming video-on-demand service is reportedly in talks to pick up the drama pilot Sneaky Pete from executive producers and co-writers Bryan Cranston (of Breaking Bad fame) and David Shore (House M.D.).

Inside sources told Variety, who originally broke the story, Amazon is considering adding Sneaky Pete, originally produced for CBS, to its next round of pilots. Adding the title to the mix would allow Amazon Prime Instant Video subscribers to decide whether or not they want the pilot to be developed into a full series.

However, if Amazon does pick up Sneaky Pete, the streaming service would be following the practices of competitors Netflix and Hulu. Both those video subscriptions routinely pick up cancelled shows from traditional television networks (as was the case with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Mindy Project).

Amazon In Talks For Bryan Cranston’s Busted CBS Pilot ‘Sneaky Pete’ (Exclusive)

Sneaky Pete” may rise again. Amazon is in negotiations with Sony Pictures TV to pick up the busted CBS drama pilot that has high-profile auspices in co-writers and exec producers Bryan Cranston and David Shore.

Sources said the plan is for Amazon to put the pilot on its Amazon Prime Instant Video platform where it will be showcased for Amazon’s typical crowd-sourcing development process of inviting viewers to weigh on its merits as a potential series.

Sources cautioned that the deal has not been finalized. But if it comes to fruition, the scenario could open up an intriguing avenue for producers and studios with projects that for any number of reasons do not go all the way to a series order from their commissioning networks.

Sneaky Pete” revolves around a con man who assumes his former cell mate’s identity when he gets out of prison in order to hide from his past. »

Amazon After Cranston & Shore's "Pete"

Amazon is in negotiations with Sony Pictures TV to pick up the scrapped CBS drama pilot "Sneaky Pete" which they plan to put on their Amazon Prime Instant Video platform where they will invite viewers to weigh on its merits as a potential series.

"Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston and legendary "House" and "Family Law" producer David Shore serve as co-writers and executive producers on the project which follows a conman (Giovanni Ribisi) who assumes his former cellmate’s identity when he gets out of prison. He winds up working for the bail bond business run by his newly adopted family.

Marin Ireland, Margo Martindale, Libe Barer, Peter Gerety and Shane McRae co-star. The deal has not been finalized, but if it works it means producers of failed pilots may have an alternate option if commissioning networks decide against picking up their shows to series.

We would all like to be in better shape, I’m thinking. Even people who work out every day always seem to want to do more to be healthier, to get into better physical condition. And goodness knows obesity and sedentary lifestyles seem to be the norm for a great many people in this country. I have to count myself among the out of shape but wanting to do something about it. I have gained and lost the same 40 or 50 pounds so many times in my life it’s now difficult to lose that weight and keep it off. I have a gym membership but rarely use it and can’t seem to find the time to get back to the gym on a regular basis.

Maybe I should get a personal trainer? Which leads me to Results, a remarkable and good hearted movie about personal trainers, a new client »
