Report: Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie Is A WWII Film Centered On The Evacuation Of Allied Troops From Dunkirk, France

“And Christopher Nolan is coming right behind me,” Quentin Tarantino said in a recent talk with Paul Thomas Anderson about “The Hateful Eight” and 70mm projection. Tarantino was referring to the fact that while The Weinstein Company had convinced 100 theaters in 44 markets to install or refurbish their 70mm capabilities, the director was implying the move was an investment in the future. After all, filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson are shooting in panoramic formats and Christopher Nolan— who often shoots in wide IMAX formats— has an upcoming film set for summer 2017. Now Tarantino or PTA didn’t say what that film was, but the implication is clear: you’ve got 70mm installed and someone like Nolan is going to make good use of it. And while it’s complete speculation as to what format Christopher Nolan is shooting in next — though every film of his since “The Dark Knight” has included »

Watch: 2 New Clips, Featurette, TV Spots & New Photos Of ‘Joy’ With Jennifer Lawrence

The more one meditates on David O. Russell’s “Joy,” the more its fairy tale, magical qualities begin to blossom. That’s evident on a first watch, but it’s also apparent that in some ways “Joy,” starring Jennifer Lawrence as a put upon mom living under the roof of an exasperating family, is a “Cinderella” tale without the prince. Isabella Rossellini is like the evil step-mom, Elisabeth Rohm is certainly a cruel stepsister, Diane Ladd is the fairy godmother character, and Robert De Niro is maybe more a composite of cruel, but slightly loving paternal figures (read our review). Read More: Review: David O. Russell’s Bold And Vibrant ‘Joy’ Starring Jennifer Lawrence It’s a bit of a manic, overstuffed film, but there’s a lot of bold feeling and heart to it, not to mention terrific performances from the aforementioned cast. Mark Ruffalo Says A Hulk Solo Movie Remains Difficult Because Of An Unhealthy Relationship Between Marvel & Universal

15 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

For a long time fans thought the reluctance to make a solo “Hulk” was on the part of Marvel. Director Joss Whedon said after the first ‘Avengers’ movie that a Hulk film would be the most difficult Marvel picture to pull off — as evinced by “The Incredible Hulk” with Ed Norton, which is easily Marvel’s lowest grossing film by a considerable margin. But it turns out the reason there’s no Hulk solo film is more complicated than that and it has to do with studio rights. Universal released Ang Lee’s “Hulk,” and while rights eventually transferred over to Marvel for their aforementioned movie directed by Louis Leterrier, apparently those rights are complex and Universal has some kind of say on what comes next. Watch: New Quentin Tarantino Featurette & Jennifer Lawrence Almost Had A Role In ‘The Hateful Eight’

16 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight” is in theaters now — or at least in its 70mm roadshow, which is hitting 44 markets — but it’s really interesting to see a Qt film that’s been met with mixed reviews. I can’t say I loved the film either, but I’d argue that Tarantino hasn’t really changed himself or his movies one iota, and that as culture changes and becomes more PC-prevalent, issues of racism and misogyny that were accepted in the past as part of his vocabulary aren’t going down as easy as they used to. Review: Quentin Tarantino’s Gleefully Nasty ‘The Hateful Eight’ With Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Samuel L. Jackson & More My mild defense of “The Hateful Eight,” which I think is far superior to “Django Unchained,” even if it doesn’t warrant its exorbitant 3 hour-plus running time and feels like a spiritual B-side to its antecedent, »
