Captain Phasma Attacks in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' IMAX Poster

Back in October, just as tickets were first going on sale for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, AMC Theatres announced Star Wars Sundays. Fans who attend IMAX screenings at the theater chain will get to take home a different IMAX poster from Star Wars: The Force Awakens each Sunday between December 20 and January 10. Earlier today, the theater chain debuted the third poster in this series, which features Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Captain Phasma is a First Order officer, whose name was an homage to the 1979 classic Phantasm, which director J.J. Abrams is a huge fan of. Phasma is one of many First Order characters in the movie, whose fates have not yet been officially revealed. It is believed that she, along with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) were among the few First Order members to make it off the Starkiller Base alive, »

Marvel Has Reacquired the Movie Rights to This Popular Villain

29 December 2015 4:45 PM, PST

Marvel Studios scored a major coup earlier this year when it announced a deal with Sony Pictures to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio now controls almost all of its major comic book characters, with the exception of 20th Century Fox's X-Men and Fantastic Four properties, and Namo the Sub-Mariner at Universal. As it turns out, it seems that the studio re-acquired another comic book character, under the radar, according to reports from ComicBook.com and Heroic Hollywood.

The character in question is Taskmaster, who director Joe Carnahan was developing a movie around several years ago, that never came to fruition. The filmmaker was also developing a Daredevil reboot for 20th Century Fox, but they couldn't get production started before the rights expired, which lead to the rights reverting back to Marvel Studios. Deadpool director Tim Miller was recently asked who he would like to see the »

Yesterday, fans got their first official look at Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange with new photos from Marvel's highly-anticipated Phase Three adventure, hitting theaters next November. Production is still under way on Doctor Strange, with many fans curious about what kinds of supernatural powers the Sorcerer Supreme will have, since he'll be the first character with these sorts of abilities introduced into the McU. Entertainment Weekly caught up with Kevin Feige, who shed some light on the kinds of things we'll be seeing from the Sorcerer Supreme next year, confirming that he will also have the Cloak of Levitation from the comics.

"He can do a whole host of things, eventually. He does cast spells, which in the comics have very sort of tongue-twisty fun names. We don't want to shy away from that, because that's what makes Doctor Strange Doctor Strange. He has a Cloak of Levitation that allows him to fly, »

Leonardo DiCaprio Almost Played This 'Star Wars' Prequel Character

29 December 2015 10:36 AM, PST

Did you know that Leonardo DiCaprio almost landed a role in the Star Wars prequels? Creator and director of the trilogy, George Lucas wanted the actor for a key role. The two did meet, but Leonardo DiCaprio, who was riding high on the success of Titanic at the time, ultimately decided to pass. Who did George Lucas want this super hot star to portray? You probably already guessed it. Yes, Leonardo DiCaprio almost played Anakin Skywalker, the future Darth Vader.

Why did Leonardo DiCaprio pass on the role? It's the same reason he's passed on quite a few tentpole blockbusters. He claims he just wasn't ready to take on the responsibility of such an iconic character in what was sure to be a franchise blockbuster. You may have noticed, but the man doesn't have many of those on is resume. Speaking with Shortlist magazine, Leonardo DiCaprio revealed the following when »

New 'Halloween' Movie Canceled as Dimension Loses Franchise Rights

29 December 2015 10:06 AM, PST

Back in June, it seemed that the latest installment in the Halloween franchise, Halloween Returns, was finally back on the right track. Marcus Dunstan (The Collector) was brought on to direct, working from a screenplay he co-wrote with his writing partner Patrick Melton, with Dimension Films claiming that production would begin this past summer. Filming never got under way, but director Marcus Dunstan revealed in September that he wants to cast Community star Gillian Jacobs as the female lead. Now it seems the long-gestating Halloween Returns has hit yet another stumbling block, with Bloody-Disgusting reporting that Dimension Films has lost the rights to the franchise as a whole.

The Wrap has also confirmed the news, adding that Marcus Dunstan is no longer involved with the project, and Miramax is looking to start fresh with producer Malek Akkad. Miramax is reportedly shopping the franchise around to find a new distributor for Halloween Returns. »

29 December 2015 9:36 AM, PST

IMAX Corporation today announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens, released by The Walt Disney Studios, soared to $106 million globally in just 12 days. This record was broken without the benefit of China, where the film opens Jan. 9, following its Dec. 27 Chinese premiere in Shanghai at a specially built temporary IMAX theatre. 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Art Shows Off Magneto's Increased Powers

29 December 2015 9:01 AM, PST

With just a few more days left until 2015 comes to an end, 2016 is promising to be even bigger at the box office. One of the most highly-anticipated releases of 2016 is 20th Century Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse, which hits theaters next May and brings the current X-Men trilogy to a close, following 2011's X-Men: First Class and last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Can 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Conquer The New Year's Box Office?

29 December 2015 8:41 AM, PST

With all of the box office records Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken so far, many are expecting this sci-fi adventure to continue dominating its competition well into the month of January. The final weekend of the year won't provide much competition for director J.J. Abrams' blockbuster, with The Hateful Eight expanding nationwide, but no other movies opening in wide release. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will have no trouble holding on to the top spot, with an estimated $89.7 million.

If Star Wars: The Force Awakens can meet or exceed this projection, it will break yet another box office record, shattering Avatar's third weekend record of $68.4 million. Avatar still holds the all-time records for highest domestic tally ($760.5 million) and worldwide gross ($2.7 billion). While it's certainly feasible that Star Wars: The Force Awakens could eventually break Avatar's all-time records, there is one thing to consider: Avatar spent much more time in theaters, »
