'Built like a tank where it counts' - LensRentals tears down Canon EF 35mm F1.4 L II

Roger Cicala at LensRentals has a great job - he gets to take things apart whenever he wants, and get paid to do it. And even better, he gets to pay himself to do it. Roger just got his hands on Canon's new EF 35mm F1.4 L II, and just like us, he's been very impressed. But, it must be said, for very different reasons. Click through for a quick look at what he found behind the red ring. Read more

Life in a glass case: We peer at new Pentax full-frame DSLR

Ricoh's upcoming full-frame Pentax DSLR is getting more real! The last time we saw it, the as yet unnamed camera was barely more than a chunk of carved plastic, but at this week's Photo Plus Expo in New York, a much more advanced mockup was on display at the Ricoh booth. Briefly. Shortly after we asked for a closer look it was removed permanently from display and locked in a cupboard. Oh well. Click through for some closeups

Big and fast: Hands-on with Zhongyi 135mm F1.4 Speedmaster

Chinese manufacturer Zhongyi optics has announced a new lens, the stupendously large Zhongyi 135mm F1.4 Speedmaster. The company is aiming to make less than 100 units, and expects the lens to appeal to specialized stills photographers and filmmakers. We got up close and personal with a prototype this week at the Photo Plus Expo show in New York. Read more

Hands-on with Canon's new PowerShot G5 X, G9 X compacts

Canon's new PowerShot G5 X and G9 X offer 1-inch sensors in compact, easy-to-use bodies. The G9 X is similar in to Canon's popular PowerShot S-series, while the G5 X takes the guts of last year's G7 X but with much more enthusiast-friendly ergonomics. We got our hands on both new models this week at the Photo Plus Expo in New York. Read our first impressions

20:20 vision: Hands-on with Sigma's 20mm F1.4 'Art'

Sigma has grown its 'Art' lineup of prime lenses again, with a new 20mm F1.4 for Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts. The new 20mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art  is designed for full frame DSLRs, and Sigma claims that the 20mm F1.4 is the result of new production technologies including a 59mm double aspherical element. The new 20mm will go on sale from November priced at £849.99/$899.99, and we just got our hands on a sample at the Photo Plus Expo in New York. Click through for some first impressions

Second time lucky? A closer look at Sony's new RX1R II

Sony has just announced a brand-new full-frame camera, the Cyber-shot RX1R II. Successor to the RX1 and RXIR, the new model brings some significant updates, most notably the same sensor and hybrid AF system as the company's flagship mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the A7R II. We've had our hands on the R1XR II and we've put together some first impressions. Click through to read more
