The Sony Cyber-shot RX10 II is the follow-up to the original RX10 bridge camera and shares the same magnesium alloy, twin-dial body design and fast, sharp 24-200mm F2.8 equiv. lens.
Under the hood, the RX10 II uses Sony's latest 20.2MP 1-inch Exmor RS BSI CMOS Sensor and a Bionz X processor. This stacked backside illuminated sensor is laid out with its circuitry positioned beneath the photodiodes, giving more room for both components and enabling faster processing and ultimately - Sony claims - better image quality. It is likely the same sensor used in the Sony RX100 IV.
The sensor also features an integrated DRAM chip to help buffer all of the information coming off it. The result is longer bursts of still images before hitting the buffer, and impressive video capture capabilities.
On the video front, the RX10 II pushes the envelope hard, adding 4K capture, as well as 240, 480 and 960fps high frame-rate modes (capture time is limited when using these higher frame-rates). Additionally, the RX10 II features Picture Profiles and a long list of pro-level video offerings.
Like its predecessor, the camera features image stabilization to assist in hand-held shooting. It also has an Anti Distortion Shutter mode, as well as a new top shutter speed of 1/32,000 sec. One big upgrade comes in the form of a new electronic viewfinder, sporting 2.35M dots, as oppose to the 1.44M dots of its predecessor.
Interestingly, the RX10 II falls into a class of camera in which its biggest competition is its predecessor, and Panasonic's FZ1000. We've compared the three in-depth below:

As you can see, the RX10 II is quite a capable camera when compared to the competition. Then again, when 50% of a product's competition is represented by a predecessor model, we'd expect nothing less.
