The Buzz: I saw the first trailer for The Good Dinosaur at Disney's D23 EXPO 2015 and tried (and failed) to hold back tears. Since then, I've watched it nearly 20 times, and each time I get completely lost in Apatosaurus Arlo's world. Also, there could not have been a better, more magical song chosen for the nearly lyrical first trailer: "Crystals" by Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men. - Chako Suzuki

The former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa serves as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed.

The Buzz: Michael B. Jordan reunites with his Fruitvale Station writer/director Ryan Coogler on a project that Coogler successfully pitched to Sylvester Stallone and now has Stallone positioned for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination; before it has even been released, Creed has surpassed Southpaw as the boxing event of the year.
Victor Frankenstein (2015) - [Opens 11/25]- Drama | Horror | Sci-Fi
Told from Igor's perspective, we see the troubled young assistant's dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Viktor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man - and the legend - we know today.

The Buzz: Movie studios will keep trying (and failing) to resurrect a successful Frankenstein story; meanwhile, we can't even get a Hulk standalone movie made. What about Hulk vs. Frankenstein then? We have unconditional love for Danielle Radcliffe and James McAvoy; normally we'd be over the moon at the thought of seeing them co-star in a movie, but there are so many flashing red lights here -- including the presence of director Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin).
The Danish Girl (2015)- Biography | Drama
The remarkable love story inspired by the lives of artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.
Director:Tom Hooper |

The Buzz: The release of The Danish Girl feels timely as our society becomes more open and accepting of the transgender community. But the film, which was inspired by the true story of the Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe, the transgender pioneer who was among the first to have gender reassignment surgery in the early 1930s, has been in the works for years. I am looking forward to seeing Eddie Redmayne take on this transformative role, especially after his Oscar-winning performance in The Theory of Everything. The film received mixed reviews on its festival run, but I was moved both by the trailer and first-look images. So, I am definitely going to check this one out in the theater. - Michelle Nelson
Janis: Little Girl Blue (2015)- Documentary | Biography | Music
Musician Cat Power narrates this documentary on Janis Joplin's evolution into a star from letters that Joplin wrote over the years to her friends, family, and collaborators.
Director:Amy Berg |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: If you are a fan of Asif Kapadia's heart-wrenching Amy, you'll want to check out this documentary, which tells a similarly poignant story. Long before Amy Winehouse was dominating headlines in industry circles and tabloid rags, it was rock legend Janis Joplin who was music's fastest-streaking female singer-songwriter, garnering as much attention for her life off the stage as her performances behind the mic. Director Amy Berg's engrossing and detailed documentary provides a delicate portrait of an often misunderstood music figure and offers an opportunity for diehards and casual fans to rediscover an unmistakable voice that's as relevant now as it was in the late 1960s. - Bret Federigan
Killing Them Safely (2015)- Documentary | Drama
In the early 2000s, two brothers found tremendous success when their company began selling a device that has been called 'the biggest revolution in law enforcement since the radio.' But as their company grew, they made decisions that would have lasting impact on both the public and their increasingly skeptical customer base.
Director:Nick Berardini |

The Buzz: A timely documentary on the invention of one of the most controversial weapons in a police officer's arsenal, Killing Them Safely's subject matter and strong reviews could result in strong word-of-mouth for a successful theatrical and VOD run.
