St. Petersburg: Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood

The Church on Spilled Blood was built on the site where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated by an anarchist in 1881. An anarchist threw a bomb at Alexander's carriage, but he was not injured. Alexander got out of the carriage and was killed by a second bomb, thrown by another conspirator. The church is located on the Griboedov Canal, shown in the foreground.
