Colter joins Krysten Ritter on the Netflix series in 2015!

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that Mike Colter will star as Luke Cage in "Marvel's Jessica Jones," an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015 following "Marvel's Daredevil."

During the course of an investigation in New York City, private investigator Jessica Jones encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage – a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined.

Colter will star opposite Krysten Ritter, who plays the title role in “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.”

“Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. “We're excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.”

"Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television. "Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.”

Colter is currently starring in the Xbox Originals series “Halo: Nightfall” as Jameson Locke. He has appeared in a number of critically-acclaimed television series, including “The Good Wife” and “American Horror Story: Coven.”

I love that Luke Cage is finally going to be seen, but Mike Colter is too small to play Power Man!

I think it's great that Luke's gonna be in "A.K.A. Jessica Jones"; seems like it'll give a good sense of continuity to the Netflix shows.

I'm not digging the casting for the Netflix shows at all. Almost all excitement I had for these is quickly disappearing. Every announcement is worse then the last.

@jefprice Stop smoking crack! This guy is the perfect actor to play Luke Cage.

Is it odd that they're not talking about the actual Luke Cage show, just AKAJJ?

Mahaha

@nedlilly I wouldn't mind if there was one show for Iron Fist, Luke Cage and J Jones together. I am ok with each having a show, of course, but I wouldn't mind this as well.

Xesselle

How big is Colter? Being a big Hulk fan as a kid, I was quite disappointed that a mere body builder was supposed to depict a 7ft, 1000 lbs monster, but that was 70's tv. There's no excuse for that kind of short-coming today. I was also a big Luke Cage fan, and a big thing about him was he's like 6'8", 300 lbs... This sort of thing matters to superhero comic fans.

And NOT TO BE RUDE OR BRUTAL, BUT She LOOKS As If SHE Couldn't Even MAKE IT THROUGH A PTA MEETING.

@Pnshr You wanted to reply to me that I repeated what the person above me said? I don't think you read carefully... the person above me (Xesselle) said that who he sees on the screen must match the physical features of the character.

Instead I said (December 24) exactly the opposite, if you read my post: it's unrealistic to expect a good actor to have the looks and build of Luke Cage and that real people are very different from characters in comic books, even normal ones.

Maybe you wanted to answer to somebody else and confused the nicknames?

Pnshr
Pnshr

ACTUALLY, XESSELE STATED HULK IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE AN INHUMAN MONSTER AT 7FT 1000 LBS, NOT SOME MERE BODYBUILDER LIKE HE WAS DEPICTED IN THE 70S TV SHOW. BUT UNDERSTANDS THAT WAS THE 70S. AND LUKE CAGE ON THE OTHER HAND SHOULD BE LIKE 6'8 AND 300 POUNDS LIKE A BODYBUILDER IN WHICH NOW THEY DON'T EVER COME CLOSE TO THAT. OK I'M SURE 6'8 IS A BIT MUCH AND PROBABLY NEGOTIABLE.

Pnshr

SORRY ACTUALLY Meant To REPLY To Mahaha

SORRY MAHAHA, NOT SURE Why It Didn't REPLY. And Also I Have No clue Why It CAPS ALL My Stuff, I Hope It Didnt COME Off As Rude.

Mahaha

@Pnshr Naaah, it's perfectly fine. It was a little weird that you caps locked everything, but now that I know that it's not on purpose it's no bother.

Back to the message, I think that the guy was implying that he wants people to look very true to the character they are portraying. My point, instead, is that I find it more important that they capture the essence of the character, I don't really care about what they look like.

That passage about the Hulk, I think, was about saying that he was disappointed that a bodybuilder portrayed him, even though he understood. But then he said that nowadays it would be unexcusable to have an actor that is not 6.8 and is built like Luke Cage.

But it's not a capital point. Maybe I misunderstood the guy, so I made my point thinking that I was offering a different perspective. No biggie. Let's just say: the guy's face looks convincingly like Luke Cage's and I generally don't care that the actors look like the characters completely.

And that is my thought regardless of whether the guy before me agreed or disagreed :)

Pnshr
Pnshr

Totally Agree With YOU On THE Face, THAT's MONey. BUT Yeah, WHEN I Think Of LUKE CAGE AND HIm DELivering A Solid POWERBURST Punch To My Face. I'm DONE If NOT COMPLETELY OBLITERATED Then No REPair Kit Out There Could EVEN Help. AND COLTIER DEFINITELY Would CAUSE Damage BUT NOT LIKE A LUKE Semi Truck Punch. I'm USUALLY NOT TOO ANAL Bout Exact REPLICATING, BUT LIKE A Balance. AND Plus YOU HAVE To Admit MARVEL Hasn't Exactly GIVEN Me Room To Think OTHERWISE With They're CHIOCES Thus Far.

Take FOR EXAMPLE The Latest Choice FOR Wonder Woman. People Keep Saying GIVE Her A Chance To ACT. Well I HOPE She Can ACT, I Would Assume THAT's PARTLY THE REASON FOR Hiring Her. BUT We're Talking The Queen Of The Amazon's. The First Time She Meets Up With SUPS N THE LIKEs.she DOSENT EVEN Once Think THAT Any Of THEM Are At ALL more DOMINEERING. She Would CONSIDER THEM Maybe as Equals AND Yet Would Still Bark Orders At THEM In Her Rough Alpha Male LIKE Way. I MEAN Sup Is SUPPOSED TO be Wowed By Her. AND NOBODY Wows Sup.

Now THE PERSON THEY Choose FOR Her Roll LOOKS LIKE

Mahaha
Mahaha member

@Pnshr I agree with you on Wonder Woman. Still, up until now, besides a couple of incidents, Marvel has not disappointed me regarding actors. They have a way of tailoring the script to a slightly different version of the character.

For Wonder Woman, I agree that it doesn't look promising.

For Luke Cage, I don't know why, but I'm staying positive.

When is it supposed to start?

Pnshr
Pnshr

You ACTUALLY Just REPEATED What THE Person Above You Just Said. Lol

Mahaha
Mahaha member

@Xesselle Not to me and a lot of others. Hulk is supposed to look like an inhuman monster. Cage is supposed to look like a big muscular guy, not something out of this world. Even if he's not the exact same height, I wouldn't care. Consider that what is "average" in comics is already a very high standard (see what street levelers with noe super strenght are able to do).

To make this believable to everybody, I would agree with a Luke Cage that is a big human guy, not a borderline monster.

wsouth
wsouth

@Mahaha @Xesselle I agree with Mahaha. We don't need a 6'8" 300 pound guy to believe its Luke Cage. We need a good actor. Think about how many guys in the world that fit that dimension, looks like Luke Cage, and can also act......that would be Zero. If you're problem with the Hulk TV show was that a bodybuilder was playing the Hulk you truly have sad sad life. Look up the term "suspension of disbelief". When you're done, join us back here in the real world.

ICEMAYNE

(sarcasm alert)  Man!  It's really too bad Marvel decided to stick with the wildly more popular "black" Nick Fury over the "white" one, the "black" Heimdall over the hugely unpopular "white" one in our beloved Marvel Studios movies.

I can't believe Marvel allowed Fox studios to change Johnny Storm's ethnicity; certainly this new reboot will do much worse that the previous two FF movies.

And seriously, what was Marvel thinking when Steve Rogers' Super Soldier Serum finally ran dry and they gave Sam Wilson the mantle of Captain America in the comics? And why would they give a Muslim girl the mantle of Ms. Marvel just because Carol Danvers is now known as Captain Marvel?

The audacity of it all!!!

I like ultimate Nick Fury way more than the normal one and I'm positive others did too. That's why they introduced a new black Nick Fury for the 616 universe.

@ICEMAYNE i went o see and I get it know!! I am a black but i don't get it! Is fox studios doing "the old man johnny" thing from the future foundation last comics!?

wsouth

@jefprice @ICEMAYNE @winstonjb   Actually ICEMAYNE and Winstonjb is correct. He was more popular than white Nick Fury. Particularly after they relaunched the Ultimate Universe. Thats why they created Nick Fury Jr. because everyone (except you) was asking to get him in the 616 universe. It was I think a full 8 years before Samuel Jackson even played him in the movies when they redesigned him to look like Jackson. The character and other characters would joke about how much he looked like Jackson. It was a thing. You missed it.

ICEMAYNE
ICEMAYNE

@Red_Star @ICEMAYNE My guess is it doesn't necessarily stem from anything printed before now so much as it's just their way of promoting "forward" thinking.

Maybe!! hope it works cause this is a bold move!!

@ICEMAYNE In no world was the "black" Fury more popular then the "white" one. Sam as Fury is, but the comics versions... not even close. NO ONE liked the Ult version.

Wait, so he's appearing in her show first, before his own show, right? Does that mean we'll get Danny in Luke's show first before Iron Fist, and Jess in Daredevil? Because, that'd be pretty neat.

@tigerclaw305 To bad Marvel couldn't use Deadpool to tie in with Squirrel Girl!  Nothing like major fights with the likes of Cable, Captain America, Luke Cage, and Squirrel Girl LOL!!!

xgliaeivw
xgliaeivw

@tigerclaw305  A Squirrel Girl cameo would be just as good in the Ant-Man movie . . . if we need a reason why squirrels obey her command without using the word "mutant", we can say she is using something similar to what Ant-Man uses to control ants.

Imagine a scene where Hank Pym is giving Scott Lang a tour of the labs. Scott sees in one of the window a room full of squirrels and a single young girl inside. Hank notices Scott's confusion and tells him, "That's just our intern, Doreen. The first to volunteer for our squirrel experiments." Hank and Scott walk away. End scene.

tigerclaw305

@xgliaeivw @tigerclaw305 It also makes me wonder if Marvel Studios has rights to Squirrel Girl? shes a mutant, But I don't know if Fox has the rights to the character.
