Help With New Skylake Build

Santa Clause, me, has been checking his list and I have not been naughty, I have been nice. So Santa Clause, me, has his list and I am heading to my local Micro Center in Tustin CA to pickup parts for my new computer build.

Here is Santa’s list.

Case: Fractal Design Define S Windowed

$ 99.99 @ Micro Center

Power Supply: Corsair RM650i

$109.00 @ Micro Center (rebates available $20.00)

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Z170 Express Maximus VIII Hero

$229.99 @ Micro Center (rebates available $20.00)

Processor: Intel Core i7-6700K

$359.99 @ Micro Center (rebates available $20.00)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX
32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 2666 MHz

$209.99 @ Micro Center

SSD: Samsung 950 Pro 256GB PCIe NVMe

$189.99 @ Micro Center

Cooling: Noctua NH-D15S CPU Cooler

$99.65 @ Amazon (not available at Micro Center)

External DVD Samsung 8x External SE-218GN/RSBD

$24.99 @ Micro Center

OS Windows 10 Professional

$139.99 @ Micro Center

This will be a home desktop computer for general use, Photoshop and Lightroom and very light gaming. Money is not an issue except I do not want to waste money on parts I will not need or get very little benefit. Part of my reason for this build is “I Want It” and this will be my first complete build.

I have several questions and I will ask one question at a time. When you have helped me with an answer I will move to my next question.

I can purchase Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8GB) 2666MHz for $206.99, getting the same ram at 3000MHz bumps the price to $295.45.

I there any reason I should consider the faster ram?

This ram is also available in a (2x16GB) configuration, why would that be better other than leaving two memory slots open?

Waiting to hear from the group, Floyd.
