Forecast: 'Spectre' and 'Peanuts' Hope for Strong Second Weekend Holds

2 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Spectre's $70.4 million opening last weekend was the seventh largest of 2015 and this weekend it faces little to no incoming competition. The week's new wide releases include the Chilean miner drama The 33, the Christmas-themed family feature Love the Coopers and the period, football drama My All American. Not one of these three new wide releases will be threatening the top two spots at the box office, which means the second weekend of Spectre and The Peanuts Movie draw the majority of our attention. Starting with Spectre, the first instinct is to look to Skyfall's second weekend back in 2012. After a monster opening, Skyfall dropped 53.5% in the face of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2's $141 million opening weekend. Quantum of Solace dropped 60% when it faced off, and took second to, the first Twilight film back in 2008. Twilight, however, isn't exactly direct competition. Taking that into consideration, it would suggest those weekend »

Paul Thomas Anderson Won't Be Directing Robert Downey Jr.'s ‘Pinocchio’

9 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Earlier this year, overly earnest Paul Thomas Anderson fans were faintly scandalized when word emerged he was writing and might possibly direct Robert Downey Jr.'s long brewing "Pinocchio" movie. Fans wondered how Anderson could go from making a Thomas Pynchon adaptation to a fairy tale movie, but it's not so outside the realm of possibility. Of course, Anderson showed himself to be a fan of Robert Altman's "Popeye," lifting a song for his own "Punch Drunk Love," and in general, his tastes aren't just relegated to the arty. Nonetheless, he won't be doing the gig. Jeff Sneider of The Wrap tweeted last night that Anderson won't be helming "Pinocchio." No word as to why, but I'd guess having more people to answer to in a major studio environment at Warner Bros., for what would be a decidedly more mainstream picture, probably wasn't that enticing. No word yet on »

Donald Trump Compares Ben Carson to a Child Molester (Video)

10 minutes ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Donald Trump may have just dropped most offensive insult yet against Ben Carson. The real estate developer said Thursday that Carson’s self-described “pathological temper” is incurable, equating it to the sickness of a “child molester.” “It’s in the book that he’s got a pathological temper,” Trump told CNN’s Erin Burnett about the retired neurosurgeon’s autobiography. “That’s a big problem because you don’t cure that … as an example, child molesting. You don’t cure these people. You don’t cure a child molester. There’s no cure for it. Pathological, there’s no cure for that. »

Prosecutors argued that Asaro was deeply involved with the gangsters who breached the Lufthansa terminal at JFK airport on Dec. 11, 1978, and emptied a vault of $6 million in cash and jewels. From murder to ghosts to vampires, the cast of “American Horror Story: Hotel” has faced plenty of scary subjects. But a sex scene with Lady Gaga? That’s a whole new brand of fear.

“Being in a sexual situation with the Countess, having to sign a nudity waiver about how it was going to go, that was the scariest [moment],” laughed Angela Bassett, whose character, Ramona, had a romantic relationship with Lady Gaga’s the Countess.

The cast of FX’s horror anthology spoke to reporters on the set of the show Wednesday, talking about their real-life fears and shooting this particular dark — and sexy — season of “American Horror Story.” And they all have different ways of dealing with all of that.

Bassett, for instance, said Gaga told her to feel at ease for their steamy scene, and they’re even able to joke about it now. In fact, Bassett revealed »
