Back in 1999, after Clifford Harris signed with LaFace, he changed his formal performing name from TIP to T.I. out of deference to elder Q-Tip, who was on the roster of parent label Arista. As anyone remotely familiar with Harris' output knows, the rapper continued to refer to himself as both "Tip and "TIP." For Da' Nic, an EP prelude to his tenth album, he reverts to TIP for five tracks that are mostly lean and, from front to back, are wholly combative. Young Thug and Young Dro join in on one track, but there are no bids for pop radio play here. Only a few lines sound like those of an artist who has reached the mainstream.
