Aaron Huey

Bio

Aaron Huey is a National Geographic Photographer and has shot 27 stories for the National Geographic Magazines. He is also a Contributing Artist for Harper’s magazine.

Huey's recent book Mitakuye Oyasin (All My Relations), published by Radius Books, won best photography book in the 2014 Independent Publisher Book Awards. That 8 year project on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation took many shapes, from a TED talk to a 2012 National Geographic magazine cover story, to an ongoing street art/advocacy campaign with the artist Shepard Fairey. Huey is widely known for his 3,349 mile, solo walk across America (with his dog Cosmo). The 2002 journey lasted 154 days. They walked every step.

Huey is a Stanford Knight Fellow and the first Global Ambassador for Stanford's d.School. He lives in Seattle with his wife, two children, and an old black dog named Suki.

Hawkeye Huey is a 5-year-old who likes bows and arrows, tree houses, rockets, and all things NASA. He is also very handy with his (analog) Fujifilm Instax camera, which he uses when his father takes him on specially designed "photo assignments." Hawkeye is the youngest photographer represented by National Geographic Creative, having signed at age 4. He was listed on Rolling Stone Magazine's "100 best instagram accounts." A book of his American portraits is expected in Fall of 2015.
