About the U.S. Trustee Program

The United States Trustee Program is a component of the Department of Justice responsible for overseeing the administration of bankruptcy cases and private trustees under 28 U.S.C. §586 and 11 U.S.C. §101, et seq.

It consists of 21 regional U.S. Trustee Offices nationwide and an Executive Office for U.S. Trustees (EOUST) in Washington, DC.

Updated Census Bureau Data
October 7, 2015

The Census Bureau’s Median Family Income Data accessible through the “Means Testing Information” page has been updated. The U.S. Trustee Program will apply the updated data to all cases filed on or after November 1, 2015.

 
USTP Posts FAQs on Baker Botts LLP v. ASARCO LLC
September 25, 2015

The U.S. Trustee Program has posted Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding how the Program will implement the Supreme Court’s ruling in Baker Botts LLP v. ASARCO LLC, 135 S. Ct. 2158 (2015), which ruled that the Bankruptcy Code does not authorize the award of attorney’s fees for defending a bankruptcy professional’s fee application.

 
USTP Issues Public Report to Congress on Criminal Referrals for FY 2014

As required by Section 1175 of the Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005, Public Law 109-162, the U.S. Trustee Program has issued its annual report to Congress on criminal referrals. The report provides the aggregate results of bankruptcy related criminal referrals made during Fiscal Year 2014.

 
Updated Administrative Expense Multipliers & IRS Data
April 29, 2015

The Administrative Expense Multipliers and IRS’s National Standards for Allowable Living Expenses and Local Standards for Transportation and Housing and Utilities Expenses accessible through the “Means Testing Information” page have been updated. The revised multipliers and standards will apply to cases filed on or after May 15, 2015.
