Chinese lens manufacturer Shenyang Zhongyi Optics has redesigned the optical construction of is Turbo Adapter that allows Micro Four Thirds users to mount Nikon and Canon lenses to their cameras. The details are slight, but the company says the configuration is completely different, although still using four elements, and new coatings have been applied to reduce flare and increase contrast. Lens manufacturer Sigma has introduced a new lens to its Art range of premium optics that it claims is the fastest 20mm in the world. The new 20mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art  is designed for full frame cameras and will be available in mounts for Canon EF, Nikon F and Sigma models. Read more

DJI, the maker of Phantom drones, has introduced a stabilized handheld 4K video system that uses a gimbal head to produce smooth video footage. The DJI Osmo is a handle-mount with a 3-axis head that senses movement and cancels out sudden jerks and bumps to ensure the camera moves slowly and the footage looks professional. Read more

German optical manufacturer Zeiss has announced it is to introduce a wide angle to its Otus family of lenses designed for full frame SLR cameras. The Zeiss Otus 1.4/28 is a 28mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.4, and will be available with ZE and ZF.2 mounts for Canon EOS and Nikon F cameras. Read more

Sony Corporation is to split the part of its business that makes imaging sensors away from the Devices segment that it currently comes under, to form its own company called Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation. Sony has said that the degree of autonomy that the new company will enjoy will allow it to react more quickly to changing market forces and will encourage the business to grow more quickly. The forthcoming Ricoh GR II is set to also be available in a special limited edition 'Premium' kit that has been announced by the company to mark the 10th birthday of the first digital version of the famous GR film bodies. The kit will come in an aluminum case and will include the GV-1 external viewfinder as well as the GW-3 wide angle converter that uses a 0.75x magnification to turn the camera’s 28mm lens into what seems like a 21mm super wide. In an interview for Adobe's blog, NASA has revealed some of the processes its scientists use to transform technical data into images that the rest of the world can appreciate and understand. From simple tasks, such as straightening and cropping, to compositing multiple layers of scientifically calculated color, the agency uses programs including Adobe Photoshop to interpret the sometimes quite abstract images sent back to Earth from devices such as the Hubble Space Telescope and the Mars rover. Ricoh has introduced a pair of underwater cameras to its WG range that feature enhanced color control for still and movie photographers. The Ricoh WG-40 and WG-40W, which are being released only in Japan at the moment, are very much like the current Ricoh WG-30 and WG-30G models, but offer a new Mermaid mode that boosts contrast and reds when used underwater.
