Anton Yelchin’s Sci-Fi Short ‘Rise’ Being Developed Into Feature-Length Movie

Hacksaw Ridge” producer Brian Oliver and Filmula’s Johnny Lin are developing a feature-length version of the dystopian short “Rise,” which starred the late Anton Yelchin.

The five-minute short, directed by David Karlak, takes place in a world where man’s attempt to create artificial intelligence has spun wildly out of control, leading to a war between man and machine. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton wrote the script for the short.

Oliver and Lin will fully finance and produce the feature film. They obtained the rights through Warner Bros., where the project had been set up initially, in the hopes of developing a franchise.

Lin is an executive producer on Tom Cruise’s upcoming crime thriller “American Made.” Oliver received a best picture Oscar nomination as a producer of “Black Swan,” and also produced “Black Mass,” “A Walk Among the Tombstones,” and “Everest.” He’s the founder of Cross Creek »

Jigsaw’s Shadow Looms Over The First Plot Details For Saw: Legacy

3 March 2017 6:38 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Seven years ago, moviegoers welcomed Saw 3D – otherwise known as The Final Chapter – as the last hurrah for Lionsgate’s iconic horror franchise. But as time wore on, James Wan and other creatives involved in the stomach-churning series started to hint that Saw 3D signaled a temporary hiatus, rather than a definitive conclusion.

Fast forward to now and we stand on the verge of Saw: Legacy, Michael and Peter Spierig’s franchise revival that’s set to reinvent the horror saga with a different storyline and new cast of characters – two of which will be played by Laura Vandervoort and Hannah Anderson. Legacy won’t forget its roots, though. The folks over at Bloody Disgusting have unearthed the first plot details for Lionsgate’s prequel-sequel (see below) which reveal that, yes, Tobin Bell’s John Kramer (Aka Jigsaw) will indeed return – either that, or a sadistic apprentice is upholding Jigsaw’s signature Mo. »

Jigsaw Will Return in Saw: Legacy

2 March 2017 10:24 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Jigsaw is back, baby! Yes, it has been confirmed that Tobin Bell will reprise his role as the infamous serial killer with a game to play in this year's Halloween release Saw Legacy. But don't expect him to dominate the movie, as the actor is only expected to be back in a limited capacity.

When it first arrived over 14 years ago, Saw was considered a groundbreaking film in the horror genre. And it spawned 6 sequels, bringing the saga to an end in 2010. For seven years, it was a Halloween tradition. That tradition returns this October 27 with an all-new installment of the iconic series. But what is this next chapter about? And is it a sequel or a reboot?

Bloody Disgusting has the answer with exclusive new plot details and the confirmation that Tobin Bell will be crawling out of that proverbial grave at least one more time to torture a few well-deserving individuals. »

Berlinale 2017: The Queen of Spain Review

14 February 2017 5:49 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Stefan Pape

Poking fun Hollywood, and the golden age of movie-making in particular, Fernando Trueba’s The Queen of Spain laughs at the industry with the same affection and romanticism that Hail, Caesar! carried, to find that compatible balance between ridicule and adulation. Given this meta endeavour is set within the business it allows the filmmaker a licence to be overstated, and he uses that freedom in quite remarkable fashion, with an aesthetic almost as vibrant as that of which we saw in his enchanting, Oscar-nominated animation Chico & Rita.

Blas Fontiveros (Antonio Resines) has been presumed dead, but makes a shocking return to world of make believe by turning up on the set of the Hollywood blockbuster set in Spain and starring their most famous export, the fictional creation of Macarena Granada (Penélope Cruz) – a character who first graced the screen in Trueba’s The Girl of Your Dreams »

Berlin Film Review: ‘The Queen of Spain’

13 February 2017 12:30 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The opening fifteen minutes of “The Queen of Spain” promise a delightfully retrograde romp back in time to the Technicolor pleasures of that golden moment in the mid-1950s when Hollywood came to Spain. Glamorous movie stars, blacklisted writers, campy production designers, fabulous sets, and hunky grips all coming together to make movies and snub their noses at Generalissimo Franco. Then the plot kicks in, and it becomes clear Fernando Trueba is having so much fun revisiting characters from 1998’s “The Girl of Your Dreams” that he’s forgotten how to build a story out of multiple strands and make it all work. Penélope Cruz is always irresistible and the cast of Spanish greats know how to chew the scenery, but this overlong semi-farce with serious overtones seems mostly designed for the local blue-rinse crowd.

The Queen Of Spain review [Berlinale]: Dir. Fernando Trueba (2017)

13 February 2017 12:30 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The Queen Of Spain review: Penelope Cruz reunites with her Belle Epoque director Fernando Trueba for this madcap comedy which features an interesting international cast.

The Queen Of Spain review by Paul Heath at the Berlin Film Festival, 2017.

Queen Of Spain review

Told primarily in its native tongue, but with some English, mostly coming from the American actors in the picture, Trueba’s film is set in 1950s Spain where returning actress Macarena Granada (Cruz) is welcomed home to shoot a Hollywood-financed historical production. We’re introduced to the actress and via reels of archived footage from the day, some real, some enhanced with Cruz’s likeness skillfully inserted. We’re painted an instant picture of Granada’s life up-to-now, both private and professional before quickly shifting to the then present-day and the character of Blas Fontiveros (Antonio Resines), who has also returned home after a long period of time missing. »

Our Favorite Faces Of Cary Elwes

13 February 2017 7:00 AM, PST | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Later this week, Predrag Antonijevic's Ghost of New Orleans will be released theatrically and on several other platforms like VOD and Digital HD. In it, two cops use an abandoned house as a stake-out location, only to be contacted by the ghost of a woman who was murdered there, urging them on to solve her crime as well. It sounds like an interesting premise, and with a castlist including Josh Lucas, Terrence Howard, Lake Bell and Cary Elwes you'd suspect it would have been a bit quicker to get to the screen, seeing as how its shoot had finished in 2010 already (and its world premiere was in 2011). Ah well, producers run into problems sometimes, and judging by some Very angry on-line comments, these...

‘The Princess Bride’ Honest Trailer Praises the Sappy Swashbuckling Love Story

As part of Fan Appreciation Month at Screen Junkies, the YouTube channel has released an Honest Trailer for the 1987 classic “The Princess Bride,” starring Robin Wright and Cary Elwes.

Unlike many other Honest Trailers, Screen Junkies actually praises the “action-comedy-romance-drama-kids movie for adults” by calling it “the best sappy, swashbuckling, medieval love story ever made.”

The video begins by attempting to explain the narrative, describing it as “a real movie about a made-up book, based on a real book about the same made-up book that the real movie is based on.” Confusing, right?
