Hummers...........my way

Is this the only way, or the best way ? No. I have seen a lot of postings of hummers, a lot of different styles. I don't use flash, but have seen work done by pros that is impressive. I like to keep it simple. All of these images were taken without flash, yes, some do appear to have flash used, but no, there was no flash used. In this group of images, I setup a feeder to lure the birds into range.

1st off, to me, lighting is crucial. I try to always have sun on their faces and set up with sun at my back. I used the Canon 55-250 STM lens with all of these.

I used a tripod with all of these images. I also sat in a lawn chair as close to the feeder as 5'. Getting close is necessary for the best results.

#1-Here is an exception to my preference of lighting being at my back. I didn't get many images I liked with the sun directly overhead.

#2- Same image as #1, not cropped to show full viewfinder view

#3- part of his left wing is blocked by a tree branch

#4

#5- notice the cobweb on his forehead and the water droplet on his beak ? Yes that's his tongue sticking out.

#6- the dark steak on his gorget is from pink tree sap when they rub their beaks on the tree branch after feeding

#7-

#8- not as sharp as I'd like, but I do like the view of his body, with the wing partially blocking it

#9-

#10

Thanks for viewing. Comments and questions are welcome,

Mike
