As ever, there are lots of decent plotlines bubbling away on Emmerdale: worries that Vanessa could have postnatal depression, Pollard’s inability to control his temper, plus Cain getting a constant reminder of his past in the form of Kyle. But I do wish that the final 30 minutes of these hour-long episodes would stop clashing with Tuesday night’s EastEnders. It divides what is essentially the same audience, with the only result being that both shows end up with smaller audiences than they deserve.
So let’s try to avoid these schedule overlaps in the future, especially seeing as Peter Fincham, director of ITV, did recently complain about Strictly “clipping the wings” of The X Factor at the weekend. Why one rule for Saturday-night TV and another for weeknight soaps?
About this programme
Moira becomes concerned about Vanessa's cool and detached attitude as baby Johnny recovers from his operation. Back in the village, Tracy diverts Pollard away from the B&B; so that Leyla can throw her party, and Chrissie accuses Bernice of being a gold-digger after she refuses to reconsider returning to Lawrence. Plus, Debbie tries to help reassure Cain about his capabilities as a father in a heart-to-heart conversation at Shadrach's grave.
