Corel introduces three new Pinnacle Studio 19 applications

Corel has introduced a trio of new versions of its video editing software applications: Pinnacle Studio 19 Ultimate, Pinnacle Studio 19 Plus, and Pinnacle Studio 19. A couple of new features have been added to the software, including a new Multi-Camera Editor in each version of the application. In addition, the latest version offers support for 6th-generation Intel Core i7 processors.

Pinnacle Studio 19's new Multi-Camera Editor allows footage from two cameras to be edited; users can also align clips with Audio Syncing. Pinnacle Studio 19 Plus, meanwhile, offers a 4-track Multi-Camera Editor with the same Audio Syncing feature and a new Audio Ducking option. Pinnacle Studio 19 Ultimate is the highest-end of the trio, allowing footage from up to 6 cameras to be edited; it likewise features Audio Syncing and Audio Ducking.

Other features include more than 1500 titles, effects, and templates, 6-track frame-accurate editing, and the ability to share footage on Vimeo, YouTube, and Facebook.

All three versions of the software are available now through Pinnacle.

I work in a school where I still teach on Final Cut Express. We're a school, and it's what we have. I've used Pro, and at home I have Avid Media Composer and LightWorks (No, I did not mean to type LightRoom).

I have tried various versions of Premiere, Vegas and Pinnacle over the years and have found all them to to be buggy. As someone else posted below, it's all those weird errors you can't correct... Even the latest version of Premiere is a disaster on my fairly recent i7 machine. AVID and LightWorks just....work.

Have you tried any of the great, high-end, Bugzilla free NLE programs specifically written for Linux OS distributions? It doesn't sound like the Apple and Windows NLE programs are any good.

I'd love to, but I don't have a spare machine powerful enough to run an NLE, even if it is Linux. I have an ubuntu laptop with a single AMD processor and 2gb of ram, though...

You are comparing professional editing solutions like Lightworks and Avid to inexpensive consumer software like Pinnacle Studio. That is extremely lame of you to do. Totally invalid comparison. It is Apples and Oranges. The person in the market for a $130 solution like Pinnacle is not going to consider such expensive software that is many times over that cost. They don't address the same market that Pinnacle does.

I understand we're talking about software from different leagues, but software at any level should be relatively error free, and the non-professional consumer level editor is going to be less able to deal with errors and glitches than a professional. Also, isn't Adobe Premiere trying to be more professional-level?

lancespring, Da Vinci is definitely professional program, and is... free (some limitations of free versions are IMO not important). LightWoks has free version too.

What bothers me most about Corel's imaging products (Paint Shop Pro, Video Studio Pro, etc.) is that the User's Guide is on the web (rather than provided as a PDF file during installation).
Even worse, you have to register and become a "member" in order to access the User's Guide.
When you first run Video Studio Pro, for example, a pop-up window says:
"You Must Sign-In To Use The Corel Guide".

I think that is ridiculous, not just silly.

What if I am editing / processing a video somewhere with no Internet access and need to look at something in the guide?

I hope Corel would stop this most annoying practice, then I would reconsider its products.

I don't know whether corel is good. Paint shop pro used to be very good when it was still JASC.

The impression I get of these mid-range NLEs (bearing in mind I've only been video editing for a few years) is that one year they get great reviews because they've added major features, then the company milks that for the next couple of 'major' release with minor updates, so some other NLE ends up being the 'best'.

After reading reviews of a few version of Corel, Sony and Adobe NLEs, they all seem to go through cycles of big updates followed by under investment for a couple of years. So, just pick one and stick with it.

What I like about Corel is functionally it's mid-range VideoStudio is quite advanced, where you'd have to buy Sony and Adobe, semi-pro products to get similar features. Adobe has just closed the gap with the just-announced Premier Elements adding 4K support at last.

I've had previous versions of the Pinnacle Studio suites (the last I used was 18), and my take is, the workflow is really simple for doing typical things (say quickly editing a slideshow or video and burning it to a DVD with menus), however recentlly I've switched over to Sony's similar product, the reason being the pinnacle software always seemed to have strange errors that you had no way of fixing, since so much of the workflow is automated, or hidden from the user. Strange things like video hiccups on occassional transitions, and the straw the broke the camels back was hours and hours of me trying to figure out why my audio was totally out of sync after taking a project from x.264 to DVD. I tried so many things from pre-compressing to mpeg2, to going to completely different formats. I even tried splitting the tracks every 1 minute, to hope that the audio would finally sync, it kind of worked, but then I had some weird video alignment issues. I would give the demo a try first...

As you can easily tell from the press release and the article, it is now called Pinnacle Studio. Not Video Studio.

On the Linux OS front, the choices for NLEs are somewhat better. Not to mention cheaper.

The Squire is totally wrong about Adobe Premiere Elements and 4k video. I've been using version 13 to edit and render 4k XAVC-S video now for almost a year.

What is really disappointing about the new Premiere Elements 14 is that just like Pinnacle, Adobe did not add support for h.265 to their new release

Although I was pleased to see that Adobe did finally add VBR 2 pass encoding to the H.264 rendering options in version 14. In version 13, only VBR 1 pass is supported.

...It clearly says 4K support is new!

But that wouldnt be the first time a new feature isn't new. Same for Corel VideoStudio (and therefore I suspect Pinnacle too) when in the latest version they say they've added XAVC-S support. I've been using XAVC-S for the last TWO versions of the software.

What exactly does that mean, I wonder -- 2-pass versus 1-pass Variable Bit Rate encoding? Having 2 passes at an encoding is somehow better than having it all done in just 1 pass?

Strikes me as being very similar to Corel VideoStudio, just with a slightly more professional set of GUI icons!

Pinnacle probably does more video tracks....

Maybe it does better color grading? That's the biggest problem I have with VideoStudio...

But you need to stump up for Ultimate edition to get 4K and XAVCS support. Blimey.

But you can still buy both Corel Video Studio and Pinnacle (by Corel).

And the prices aren't that much different either!

One would figure it would help if Samsung paid Corel do allow for H265.

Yeah, but your first sentence in your initial post was confusing. H264 is a very established coding so why should you fret that it wasn't listed? Surely that's a given for any video editor worth its salt would have that H264 is a standard supported format?

Hi I bought Pinnacle Studio ultimate,
it DOES NOT SUPPORT H265 Codec but it does support h264

Re. the input/import codecs -- weak line-up. I work a lot with Sony Digitial Betacam derived uncompressed SD and a little with uncompressed HD, also with such legacy formats as Hi-8, Digital 8, Sony DVCAM, etc. And for audio, Broadcast WAV.

Doesn't look like Corel Pinnacle Studio can help me one bit here, then.

Corel isn't the most cutting edge software so considering how little support for native editing H265 is doesn't surprise me there is no support.

I also wonder what the performance of native editing H265 will be as it is very processor intensive. I suspect it's better practice to capture H265 but transcode to a simpler, but higher bit-rate codec.
