Three new episodes of classic Thunderbirds are coming and they look F A B

5,4,3,2,1 – Thunderbirds are GO! again thanks to a Kickstarter project. Yes, that's right, THREE new episodes of the classic series are to be released, and there'll be strings attached everywhere.

Today – September 30th – marks 50 years since the first episode of Thunderbirds hit TV screens and to celebrate, the team behind Thunderbirds documentary Filmed in Supermarionation decided to get together and attempt to do something rather special.

They set up a Kickstarter fund with the aim of taking some old Thunderbirds audio recordings from the 1960s and turning them into puppet-filled pieces for our visual enjoyment.

And it didn't take director Stephen La Rivière long to raise the money he needed. In fact, 3,378 backers pledged £218,412, which was more than enough to fund the marionettes' return to TV screens in glorious quality.

Just take a sneaky peek at the above trailer for the first episode, The Abominable Snowman, and you'll see what we mean.

The project features recordings made by the original voice cast back in the 1960s, and you'd be forgiven for thinking the footage was recorded back then too – even if the quality is rather better.

For now, the forthcoming episodes will only be available to those who funded the project on DVD or Blu-ray, but surely it sparks the beginning of a nostalgia-fuelled return for our favourite Tracey Island family?

The project does have the backing of Gerry Anderson's estate, after all...
