US shares are rapidly moving higher after the Federal Reserve chose to leave interest rates unchanged. The Dow Jones is up around 0.3% and the Nasdaq is up over 1.3%.

US stocks higher ahead of Fed decision
On Wall Street the Dow Jones average closed 137 points higher at 16,737.
The S&P 500 ended 17 points up at 1,995.
And the Nasdaq rose 29 points to 4,889.
On the foreign exchanges the pound currently buys you 1 dollar 55, and 1 euro 37.3.

US markets lifted by energy stocks
US shares closed higher on positive retail data. The Dow Jones closed 1.4% higher to 16,599.85 points, while the Nasdaq rose 1.14% to 4,860.52 points. The S&P 500 gained 1.28%, to 1,978.09. Despite the gains however, analysts said it did little to remove uncertainty about whether the Federal Reserve will end seven years of near zero interest rates when it meets this week.
After all the non-excitement of the Fed's decision, how did the US stock markets react?
The Dow Jones fell 64 points to 16,676.
The S&P 500 fell five points to 1,990.
And the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 5 points to 4,894.
On the foreign exchanges the pound currently buys you 1 dollar 55.9 and 1 euro 36.4.
