The Raw and the cooked: pulling apart Sony's Raw compression

A Raw file is a Raw file, right? Well, not exactly. Lately, there's been a lot of talk and a lot of anger about the compression Sony uses in its Raw files. Panasonic's newest DSLR-styled mirrorless camera is the Panasonic Lumix G7, offering a 16MP Four Thirds sensor capable of 4K video recording. We've updated our Canon EOS 5DS/5DS R First Impressions to include studio test samples from final production versions of the cameras. While we've previously tested a beta version of the 5DS R, we've finally been able to put final production versions of the two cameras through our studio. Read more

Opinion: The future of DSLR or: how I learned to stop worrying and love the ILC

Despite some sales growth, mirrorless isn't taking over photography. Equally, DSLRs aren't flying off the shelves the way they used to. DPReview's Richard Butler argues that convergence is coming and that it's not the mirrors that matter. Read more
