One of the key features in Project Maelstrom is the ability to easily enjoy video and audio from torrents without having to wait for the entire download to complete. As you might expect, much of our effort is going to be focused on improving the media player and we’re happy to announce that one of the first features on our list has made it out into the wild as part of our latest release.

If you open a torrent or magnet link that has subtitle files included you’ll see a new option in the media player. Clicking on the “subtitle” icon will bring up a list of available subtitles for you to choose from. Currently, only UTF-8 encoded “.srt” files are supported but we’re looking forward to hearing from you about subtitles so that we can continue to make the experience better for everyone.

Sync 2.2 Now Available

Sync is a big idea providing a very simple solution: the ability to move large amounts of data directly and efficiently between devices without the public cloud. We’ve been evolving the initiative from the start, and the launch of Sync 2.0 was a major milestone: the introduction of a commercial version of the product.

With 2.2, personal users are now able to purchase a one-time license for Sync Pro for USD $39.99 that gives you all the Pro features. Existing personal users will be able to convert to this non-subscription license. Business accounts for Sync Pro will remain subscription based.

Drobo strives to make data storage as easy-to-use and automated as possible. These are core values we share with BitTorrent Sync; if you ever need to get files from one device to another (no matter what or where it is), simply share the folder and Sync takes care of the rest.

When we introduced the first version of our API, we wanted to provide developers access to the BitTorrent Sync engine and see what applications they could build to leverage it. It was an effort to build a community that made good use of distributed technology, one that took the reliance off of third-party servers and…
