Adding it up: Sony a7R II First Impressions Review

The Sony Alpha 7R II has been the topic of much discussion and in our office, much testing. Instagram has 400 million active users

It seems there's just no limit to the growth of Facebook-owned mobile image-sharing platform Instagram. The company just announced it has reached a stunning 400 million active users, an increase of 100 million compared to the figures released in December 2014. Read more

Vantage Robotics' new Snap 4K camera quadcopter is up for preorder

Vantage Robotics has a new 4K camera quadcopter called Snap, and it's now up for pre-order. The company calls this a 'flying camera', one that fits in a backpack and is safe enough to grab out of the air with a bare hand. Read more

DxOMark Mobile report: LG G4 takes second place in rankings

DxOMark has released its test results for the LG G4, which boasts a 16MP 1/2.6" sensor and F1.8 lens. Other camera features include a laser system to support autofocus speed and accuracy, 3-axis optical image stabilization and an LED flash. DxO ONE real-world sample gallery

The DxO ONE is a clever little iPhone companion camera with a 20MP 1"-type sensor and 32mm equiv. F1.8 lens. Epson introduces Wi-Fi Direct PictureMate PM-400 mini-inkjet printer

Epson has announced the PictureMate PM-400, a new addition to its PictureMate range of miniature inkjet printers. It features Wi-Fi Direct and is able to print from smartphones and tablets wirelessly even without a Wi-Fi hotspot. Read more

Airnef brings desktop Wi-Fi transfer to Nikon users

A DPReview community member and forum moderator has created a free desktop application designed to help Nikon users wirelessly transfer files from their cameras to their computers. Compatible with OS X, Windows and Linux, Airnef is an open-source utility that works with Nikon's external Wi-Fi adapters as well as cameras with built-in Wi-Fi. Read more

Amazon reveals thinner Fire HD tablets

Amazon has today updated its Fire tablet line and announced three new models, the Fire HD, Fire and Fire Kids. Not only are the new models lighter and thinner than the previous generation, but with their introduction the Kindle name is dropped from the Amazon tablet lineup. Read more

Exo creates housing to make GoPro operate, look more like a traditional camera

New Zealand-based EXO Camera Equipment has launched a Kickstarter campaign to get its camera-style casing for GoPro cameras off the ground. The company hopes to produce the EXO GP-1, a metal body into which GoPro cameras can be placed, to take on a more traditional camera form. Read more

Nikon D5200 and D7100 firmware updates removes noise during video capture, fixes bugs

Nikon has released firmware updates for both the D5200 and D7100 cameras,. Bth new versions of the firmware reduce horizontal line noise in videos recorded at 1280×720/60p and 1280×720/50p. In addition, firmware v. 1.03 fixes select bugs affecting both models. Read more

Olympus announces details of major firmware updates for E-M1 and E-M5 II coming November

Olympus unveiled the details of two fairly significant firmware updates, both of which will be available for download, for free, come November. The flagship Olympus OM-D E-M1 will receive firmware version 4.0. while the not even one-year-old OM-D E-M5 II will receive firmware version 2.0. Read more

Canon's new Connect Station will feature wireless charging, support 4K video

Canon unveiled its next generation Connection Station this week at Canon Expo 2015 in New York. The new model is similar to the original CS100, first introduced at CES earlier this year, but with the addition of two new big features: wireless charging and support for 4K playback. Read more

Sony brings uncompressed Raw to a7S II, a7R II and...

Sony has announced an uncompressed Raw option for its forthcoming a7S II model and will offer firmware updates for some existing models, starting with the a7R II. Up to now, Sony's cameras have only recorded compressed Raw files that can have a visual impact on some images. The company says the move comes in response to feedback from its users.

National Portrait Gallery announces shortlist for Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize

The four images in the running for the £12,000 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize have been revealed by Great Britain’s National Portrait Gallery. The often-controversial award is again set to spark some debate as one of the shortlisted images features a naked boy that many media outlets will have to think twice about reproducing. Read more

Could the future of photo viewing be virtual reality? Flickr thinks so

This past weekend Flickr demonstrated an early preview of a 'virtual reality experience' designed for viewing 360-degree panoramic photos. The demonstration used the Oculus DK 2 headset connected to a computer, and allowed wearers to completely immerse themselves within the panorama. Read more

Canon EOS M3 real-world samples
