Why have Tsar Nicholas' remains been exhumed?

Russian investigators have exhumed the remains of Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra.
The Romanov family members were killed by revolutionary Bolsheviks.
The Orthodox Church wants the remains re-checked to confirm links to other relatives whose remains are elsewhere.
