Madrid's historic Market of San Miguel, reinvented in 2009 as a gastronomic mecca with products of the highest quality, is opening its doors in Miami to seduce the most demanding tastes.

The Feria del Mercado de San Miguel will remain open to the pubic from this Saturday until Jan. 26, 2016 in Bayfront Park, offering a selection of artisanal products and the best informal dining, the organization says.

The monumental Madrid market, founded in 1916 and replete with literary references, is trending a revival of eateries like this in the capital and other cities around Spain.

This new gastronomic phenomenon is now to appear in Miami thanks to the initiative of San Miguel president Montserrat Valle, who sees Miami as a "natural choice" for this culinary fair.

"No city in America embraces Hispano-American cultural fusion more than Miami," Valle said.

This itinerant take on Madrid's Market of San Miguel has 9,000 sq. feet (837 sq. meters) of covered and outdoor areas for serious wine and tapas tastings.

The fair will have "numerous kiosks, counters and showcases with a wide-ranging offer of delicacies from regional Spanish gastronomy" in surroundings that preserve the early 20th-century architecture of the original market.

The gourmet selection will consist of both traditional and contemporary cuisine.

Madrid's Mercado de San Miguel, visited by some 75,000 people a week, 40 percent of whom are tourists, is the only market with iron architecture that has been preserved in Madrid, and is considered an Asset of Cultural Interest in the Monuments category. EFE
