New thrillers “The Perfect Guy” and “The Visit” were neck and neck at the Friday box office, with “The Perfect Guy’s” $10 million haul just edging out “The Visit’s” $9.2 million take.

Sony/Screen Gems’ “The Perfect Guy,” which stars Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut and Michael Ealy, had a solid bow in 2,221 locations Friday, tracking for a three-day total of $25 million. Pic follows Lathan’s character as she becomes entrapped in an intense love triangle that turns dangerous. At this time last year, Screen Gems found success in releasing similar romantic thriller “No Good Deed” with Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson, which bowed to $24.3 million.

The Perfect Guy,” which boasts a modest $12 million pricetag, is the third in a string of recent films aimed at African-American audiences to strike it big at the box office (following “Straight Outta Compton” and “War Room.”)
