Perhaps all those people asking whether the 5DS/R is selling well or not may have something.

it may be that, that's why canon pre-announced so there wouldn't be adopters of a 5Ds with this coming out. canon used to announce pretty far in advance with the 1 series in the past, and the 1DX was announced six months in advance if you recall.

I suspect we're going to see another 1Ds camera body and it's not going to be cheap.
