Kodak licensee JK Imaging has introduced the PixPro SP360-4K camera, a variation of its PixPro SP360 Action Camera model that includes a 4K resolution option for still images and video. Red Dot Camera is a new camera app for iOS by Lifelike Apps. Its makers, who call themselves avid Leica M shooters, have tried to convert the look and feel of the legendary camera series to an iPhone app complete with rangefinder-style manual focusing. Read more

Toshiba has announced that it will bring its wireless transfer memory cards to Europe, after having sold them in the Japanese market since the beginning of summer. The Class 10 16GB SDHC card uses TransferJet technology to communicate with compatible devices or devices fitted with TransferJet adapters that are brought into close proximity with the card's host. That inkjet printer ink costs more than champagne is the frequent moan of anyone who has to replace their cartridges. Take heart though, as Epson has launched a range of printers called EcoTank that it claims will help users save 70% on home printing. The five new machines come with what Epson says is enough ink to last two years, and once empty the tanks can be refilled from a bottle instead of being replaced. Read more

This year's IFA show in Berlin saw the introduction of the Polaroid Snap instant digital camera. It features a 10 megapixel sensor and integrated ZINK Zero Ink printer that produces 2 x 3 inch adhesive-backed color photos using heat-activated dye crystals and a polymer overcoat rather than ink. Ricoh has unveiled the latest version of its 360-degree camera, the Theta S. Thanks to two 12MP 1/2.3" sensors, the S is capable of 14MP 360-degree still image capture, up from the previous model's 6MP images. Brighter lenses, 1080/30p video and integration with Google's new Street View app are all onboard. Read more
Epson UK has announced a further model to the SC range of A3+ printers with the SC-P400, a printer it claims is smaller and lighter than any other A3+ pigment inkjet machine. Although no pricing has been released, the new model is said to be part of an 'affordable' package that includes the lowest cost pigment ink-set on the market. Read more
Following a development announcement in July, Panasonic is making good on its promise of a 25mm F1.7 lens. With a seven-blade aperture, it acts as a 50mm equiv. on Micro Four Thirds bodies and takes advantage of Panasonic's 240 fps contrast detection AF system. Read more

Sony announced the Xperia Z5 Premium today, boasting a 5.5" 4K display. It was unveiled alongside the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact, and each offers a new 23MP 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS BSI CMOS sensor with an F2.0 lens. A new hybrid AF system claims to acquire focus in 0.03, which would make it the fastest AF system on any current smartphone camera. Read more
Sony has launched an online content hub and community called αUniverse to showcase its alpha brand. The website is a portal for videography, photography, news content, and instructional content aimed at the imaging community, and will also be used as the primary outlet for news directly from Sony Imaging. A Raw file is a Raw file, right? Well, not exactly. Lately, there's been a lot of talk and a lot of anger about the compression Sony uses in its Raw files. Compressed Raw files aren't uncommon, but they're usually compressed in a way that retains all the original 'raw' data from the sensor. That doesn't seem to be the case with Sony's latest cameras. Narrative, maker of the Clip wearable camera, has launched the Clip 2. In addition to a sensor resolution boost from 5MP to 8MP, the Clip 2 is capable of shooting 1080p video clips unlike its stills-only predecessor. Read more
Updated Japanese lens manufacturer Tamron has announced it has revamped its SP lens range, starting with the SP 35mm F1.8 Di VC USD and the SP 45mm F1.8 Di VC USD. As a company that usually produces zoom lenses it's surprising to see the first two SP models are fixed focal lengths primes, boasting new design values inside and out according to Tamron. Read more

DxO has announced that its ONE camera is coming to Europe this October. The ONE, which is shipping this month to US customers, features a 1"-type 20.2MP CMOS sensor, 32mm equivalent F1.8 lens and an integrated lightning connector for use with an iPhone or iPad. Read more
GoPro has added a Trim and Share feature to its mobile app and some of its camera models, allowing users to pull short clips from video footage and share the finalized video. The feature is available now in the latest version of the GoPro mobile app, and is offered on the HERO4 Black + LCD BacPac, HERO4 Silver, and the HERO+ LCD. Read more
Updated: Panasonic has announced the Lumix DMC-GH4R, a Europe-only variant of the GH4 that offers a Log gamma curve and unlimited 4K video recording. There will also be a paid-for firmware update adding the V-Log L Photo Style to the GH4 - a super-flat tone curve designed to capture the maximum dynamic range for greater flexibility while color grading. Sony's Alpha 7R II breaks a lot of new ground in terms of photographic technology. Its 42MP chip is the first full-frame backside-illuminated sensor, and it's bolstered by a 5-axis stabilization system. The Holga camera - a 120 film camera from the 1980s which has recently seen a resurgence among low-fi photo fans - is going digital, thanks to a project seeking funding on Kickstarter. The Holga Digital camera features original optics that are known for their dark corners and vivid colors. Read more
The Leica Q certainly wowed us when we spent a little time with a pre-production unit back in June. Its 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor, 28mm F1.7 stabilized lens and 3.68M dot equivalent viewfinder cut an impressive figure, something modern and classic all at once. The makers of the Astropad iPad app have launched a version for the iPhone, aptly called Astropad Mini. Like the iPad version, the new app allows you to use your Apple device as a graphics tablet when working with imaging applications such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom using Astropad's LIQUID technology for communication with the Mac. Camera companies are struggling to sell cameras - that much is widely known. But analyst Heino Hilbig says that it's not smartphones, market saturation or the fallout of the 2008 financial crisis that's caused this. Instead he argues that it's the fun-factor and easy operation that the iPhone brought that have made cameras seem less attractive. We think he's on to something. Read more

NASA has turned to a process devised in 1864 to help it measure shockwaves created by supersonic aircraft flight. The method, schlieren photography, was invented by German scientist August Toepler to observe the effect of objects moving through transparent media, such as water or air. Read more
Instagram's latest update brings a fundamental change with it. Since the app's launch in 2010 users have been limited to posting images in square format. However, today this has changed. After installing version 7.5 of the app, you can post your images in portrait and landscape formats. Read more
Edelkrone has introduced its QuickReleaseONE, a device the company says is the first universal quick release on the market. The QuickReleaseONE screws into the tripod mount on the bottom of a camera, and attaches to the 1/4"-20 screw on any tripod plate. Read more
Canon has announced US availability for its EOS M3 mirrorless camera, which was launched in February for European and Asian markets. Set to be available in October, the EOS M3 includes a 24.2MP APS-C sensor, Hybrid CMOS AF III AF system, 3" tilting touchscreen LCD and Wi-Fi with NFC. Read more

Australian company Palette has announced a sampling device that can read the color of items it is placed on, allowing photographers to match the exact chromatic values when processing images in Photoshop. Read more
Kenko Tokina USA recently announced the Hoya HD3 series UV and Circular Polarizer lens filters. According to the company, the filters are 4 times stronger than optical glass, and offer a 99.7 percent light transmission rate. Read more

Originally announced last September, Leica's medium format S camera presents a number of key changes that bring it up to date with the latest models from its main competitors. Although the S Type 007 retains the same pixel-count as the previous Type 006, the company has switched from its traditional CCD sensor to a CMOS unit. According to a source speaking with Fuji Rumors, the Fujifilm X100T's successor will have a new lens. The present lineup of X100 cameras all feature the same fixed 23mm F2 lens, and if past announcement intervals are any indication, the X100 series may see an update just around the corner. Read more
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 II is the next evolution of an already impressive camera. The E-M10 II introduces 5-axis stabilization to the entry-level OM-D line, while it maintains the 16.1MP Live MOS sensor and TruePic VII engine of its predecessor. A number of ergnomic and feature upgrades make the E-M10 II an enticing little ILC at a nice price. Does it deliver? Read more

Samsung has released another firmware update for the NX1 mirrorless camera, taking the model from firmware version 1.32 to 1.40. The newest software improves existing features such as the audio quality from external microphones, and adds new features including video digital image stabilization. Read more
Recently we've heard reports of some Apple iPhone 6 Plus cameras failing and producing blurry images. Apple has acknowledged the problem and is offering to replace the faulty camera unit for free. Read more
The recently announced Sony Alpha 7R II packs a lot of groundbreaking features, and one of its highlights is the new full-frame 42.4MP BSI-CMOS sensor. Sony sensors tend to show very high Raw dynamic range due to low noise characteristics, but we wanted to take a closer look at exactly how little noise the camera itself contributes to images.
