A Virginia dad gave his 13-year-old daughter some tough love when he put a chain and padlock on her closet after she racked up a $541.36 phone bill.

Jared Cramer decided to take extreme measures after his daughter, Julia, caused the huge bill due to data fees from too many Instagram posts.

The eighth grader now has items from clothes to makeup to jewelry locked in the closet and labeled with numbers on Post-It Notes - indicating the number of chores she has to complete to earn them back.

Is this a valuable life lesson that Cramer is teaching his daughter? Or is it too extreme?
