Is it time to point out differences between Panasonic and Olympus?

I think people outside the 4/3s community tend to view Olympus and Panasonic almost as a single entity. They talk about maybe getting an m43s camera instead of getting an Oly or a Panny when few people talk about getting an APS-C camera.

I think people see Olympus and Panasonic as moving in some sort of regimented lock step. If they perceive any difference at all it that old video/stills canard.

Maybe some of this is our fault. Maybe we are too interested in presenting a positive united front in promoting a the idea of a single 'system' with multiple vendors, that we forget to stress that there is plenty of room within the m43s standard for companies to compete with each other in very significant ways.

I think it might be time to encourage some civil discussion of the merits of one over the other, and when one is more desirable over the the other.  Maybe a little competition not only between the two main companies, but between proponents of those brands is a desirable thing.
