Longue Vue House and Gardens

Longue Vue House and Gardens is a beautiful oasis of flowers and trees right in the city itself.

The House

Long Vue was built by noted philanthropists Edgar and Edith Stern, and was their residence for many years. Located at #7 Bamboo Road in New Orleans, it is best reached by taxi if you are unfamiliar with the city, or your hotel may arrange transportation. The main portion of the Classical Revival house is on tour, and consists of 20 rooms with their original furnishings, including the Art Gallery, the Flower Arranging Room, the Wrapping Room, and the Drawing Room.

The Sterns entertained such notables as John and Robert Kennedy, Pablo Casals, and Eleanor Roosevelt in that drawing room.

The Gardens

There are actually 9 gardens on 8 acres. The Pan Garden is reminiscent of a walled French Quarter courtyard. The Wild Garden features native plants such as the Louisiana Iris and Camillias. The Spanish Court was inspired by the gardens in the Alhambra, in Grenada, Spain. The Discovery Garden is one-half acre of interactive learning for children of all ages, including the Bamboo Tunnel and Butterfly Garden. Several more gardens and walks lined with oak trees, and dotted with ponds, herbs, and other blooming green life await you.
