Healthy, safe, self-determined First Nations who have the capacity to govern themselves according to their ancestral laws, spiritual beliefs, values, customs and traditions in accordance with their Inherent and Treaty rights.
MISSION STATEMENT
Strengthening First Nation communities by establishing peaceful and harmonious relationships through the restoration of our traditional justice and governance processes, and community based strategies that provide healing and community safety.
ROLE
The role of the FSIN Justice Secretariat is to advance the governance agenda directed by the Indian Justice Commission. The Secretariat focuses on legislative, policy, framework and justice institutional development, while supporting First Nations in fulfilling their goals and aspirations within their respective territories.
EXECUTIVE ADDRESS
Welcome to the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations’ Justice Secretariat website. We are pleased that you are visiting our site and hope that you will find the information useful.
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) continues to advance the First Nations’ Inherent and Treaty rights agenda through institutional and framework development. FSIN, while respecting the autonomy of First Nations leadership, is the voice and vehicle of First Nations’ collective action and overall strategic direction.
As the executive member responsible for the Justice Portfolio, my agenda is guided by the Indian Justice Commission Chiefs who have clearly directed me to develop and implement a First Nations administered system of just relations. The Justice Secretariat has focused its efforts on justice institutional development, while supporting First Nations in fulfilling their objectives of rebuilding governance capacity within their respective territories.
Over the past two years, First Nations policing issues have been at the forefront of our agenda. First Nation lives have been lost and these tragedies have had an enormous impact on the communities. To the families and communities who have lost loved ones through these tragedies, I want to offer my condolences and to assure you that I will do my utmost in establishing institutions that will be more responsive to First Nation needs and aspirations.
To the Chiefs of Saskatchewan, I thank you for your perseverance and dedication in addressing the many critical issues that have brought our leadership together to provide direction and assistance in developing our governance processes that will, one day, empower our grandchildren to determine their own future.
