Crime thriller 'Legend' holds world premiere in London

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRRATION) Stars of the crime thriller, 'Legend', walked the blue carpet in London on Thursday (September 3) for the movie's world premiere. It tells the true story of the infamous Kray twins - Reggie and Ronald - who ruled London's East End in the swinging sixties. British actor Tom Hardy portrays both of the twins in the film. He said that he signed up to the project for "the challenge" and because of a fascination with the criminal underworld. These roles felt like a "natural progression." Murder convictions sent the Krays to jail for life in 1969 but to this day they hold almost mythical status in Britain. At the time, they were hailed as celebrities and courted by the rich and famous, with their influence even extending to the higher levels of the British Establishment. However, Hardy's co-star Christopher Eccleston, who plays the policeman Nipper Read, was keen to point out that while the lives of the Krays were at times glamorous, the movie doesn't glorify their behaviour. "Legend" opens in UK cinemas on September 9 and in the United States on October 2.
