Adrenaline junkies gathered on the Greek Island of Zakynthos from August 20-24 to BASE jump above the Ionian sea. BASE jumping is an extreme sport which requires you to parachute from a fixed structure or a cliff. Stunning views and emerald waters meant that jumpers travelled from across the globe to throw themselves into the action. SOUNDBITE Event Organiser, Jimmy Pouchart, saying (English): "Every base jumper who sees a photo of this bay and of a base jumper jumping into it wants to come here." Locals call it "Shipwreck Beach" after the MV Panagiotis which wrecked on the sandy, white shore in the early eighties. On top of the cliffs, the jump off point is a knee-quivering 656 ft above sea level. SOUNDBITE Base Jumper, Marta Empinott, saying (English): "When you are standing at the exit point and you look at the view you know that nature is definitely showing off." The jumpers performed more than 300 jumps in four days, providing visitors with a spectacular show, And the participants were jumping for joy.
