Songs On Screen: All week HitFix will be featuring tributes by writers to their favorite musical moments from TV and film. Check out all the entries in the series here. When we talk about underrated directors, it's hard not to mention Walter Hill. Hill is an underrated director, the way Michael Ritchie and Peter Yates were underrated directors, the way Roger Donaldson, Joe Dante, and Fred Schepisi are underrated directors. They’re all underrated because it’s only when you look at their filmographies that the numbers start to total up and you realize, boy, he directed a lot of really good movies. In Hill’s case, that list includes "The Warriors," "48 Hours," "The Long Riders," "Southern Comfort,: "Hard Times," "Trespass," and "Wild Bill." Some great. Some solid. Voltage Developing Charles Bukowski Movie

Voltage Pictures is developing Charles Bukowski’s semi-autobiographical novel “Women” into a movie.
Voltage topper Nicolas Chartier will produce with Dominic Rustam overseeing. Ethan Furman has adapted a script from the 1978 novel, in which protagonist Hank Chinaski is a celebrated poet and writer and is faced with a variety of women who provide him only temporary fulfillment.
The Chinaski character appeared in eight other Bukowski novels: “Confessions of a Man Insane Enough to Live With the Beasts” (1965), “Post Office” (1971), “South of No North” (1973), “Factotum” (1975), “Ham on Rye” (1982), “Hot Water Music” (1983), “Hollywood” (1989) and “Septuagenarian Stew” (1990). Bukowski died in 1994 in Los Angeles.
Bukowski also wrote the screenplay for 1987’s semi-autobiographical “Barfly,” directed by Barbet Schroeder and starring Mickey Rourke as Henry along with Faye Dunaway. The movie also features a cameo appearance by Bukowski himself.
James Franco recently wrapped production on a Bukowski biopic that he directed and produced. Tim Blake Nelson stars as the author. »

Loyalty’s gotta count for something. Mitch Glazer is a veteran screenwriter (“Scrooged”), producer, the creator/showrunner of Starz’s “Magic City” and a longtime friend of Bill Murray. While he’s worked in Hollywood for some thirty years, it wasn’t until 2010 and “Passion Play” with Mickey Rourke, Megan Fox and Murray that Glazer directed a film. Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival that year, “Passion Plays” was universally regarded as a disaster. There was a time when Marvel Studios was so cheap they were either losing actors or cutting the cord with talent when they got too expensive. With WWE Studios churning out films like Jingle All The Way 2 and The Marine 4 with all the grace of a diseased sea lion vomiting mackerel onto the backseat of a Toyota Yaris, you’d be forgiven for thinking that wrestlers and movies were not meant to mix.
But everyone from Dean Ambrose to Paige to Brodus freakin’ Clay has taken time off to shoot some film or another, and the wrestlers of the WWE show no signs of halting their nefarious plan to impersonate actors. A few nights ago, Warner Bros. hosted a very canny event that our own Louis Virtel attended at the Playboy Mansion, a screening of "Entourage" that may have felt like virtual reality for those who attended. While I doubt being surrounded by scantily clad bunnies influenced Louis one way or another on the film, it's likely you'll see a number of reviews that are perhaps more enthusiastic than they would otherwise be, and it'd be hard to blame anyone who fell for it. One of the reasons the setting seemed so right for that particular film is because much of the charge of "Entourage" is watching the core ensemble swagger their way through Hollywood, doing whatever they want and rarely if ever facing any consequences as a result. Vmi infiltrates Cannes with 'Riot'

Vmi Worldwide has been tempting Croisette buyers with action titles Riot starring Dolph Lundgren and Perfect Weapon with Steven Segal.
Riot falls under the company’s new multi-title production deal with Lundgren and goes out in North America via output partner Cinedigm.
Director John Lyde is in production in Utah on the revenge story about a former police officer who infiltrates a prison to strike at a mob boss. Matthew Reese and Chuck Liddell also star.
“This is now the third time that we’ve had the pleasure and honour to work with action Legend Dolph Lundgren and it’s looking like there will be many more film collaborations to come,” said Vmi president Andre Relis. “We couldn’t be happier to once again be associated with such a professional and inspiring partner.”
Lundgren also stars alongside Mickey Rourke, Liddell and Luke Goss in the WWII action title War Pigs.

Paramount nabs Tribeca hit 'Ashby'

Exclusive: Studio swoops on Mickey Rourke comedy-drama in North America, UK, Australia, more.
Paramount Home Media Distribution (Phmd) has snapped up all rights to Tribeca debut Ashby in North America, the UK, Germany, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Benelux, and Switzerland, as well as Pan Asia Pay TV and worldwide airlines.
Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars), Sarah Silverman (School of Rock) and Emma Roberts (American Horror Story) star in the well-received coming-of-age comedy-drama, written and directed by Tony McNamara.
In what is understood to be a multi-million dollar deal, including a theatrical component, the film will get a day-and-date theatrical and VOD release in the Us. The release is tentatively scheduled for fall 2015.
The deal was negotiated by Paramount Home Media Distribution, CAA, UTA Independent Film Group, and Bankside Films.

From anime to pitch-black thrillers, here's our pick of the underappreciated movies of 1987...
Sometimes, the challenge with these lists isn't just what to put in, but what to leave out. We loved Princess Bride, but with a decent showing at the box office and a huge cult following, isn't it a bit too popular to be described as underappreciated? Likewise Joe Dante's Innerspace, a fabulously geeky, comic reworking of the 60s sci-fi flick, Fantastic Voyage.
What we've gone for instead is a mix of genre fare, dramas and animated films that may have garnered a cult following since, but didn't do well either critically or financially at the time of release. Some of the movies on our list just about made their money back, but none made anything close to the sort of returns enjoyed by the likes of 1987's biggest films - Three Men And A Baby, Fatal Attraction »

Hugh Jackman has played Logan aka Wolverine in seven different films. It’s an impressive number that will shortly increase with a third solo Wolverine film and possibly X-Men:Apocalypse, although at the time of writing he has yet to be officially cast. A few other names are snapping at the heels of Jackman, notably the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you include the forthcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, Chris Evans has played Captain America four times (five if you include his appearance as Loki using magic to look like the first Avenger in Thor: The Dark World), Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth have portrayed Black Widow and Thor respectively four times each whilst the King of the McU, Robert Downey Jr. has made an impressive six appearances as Iron Man/Tony Stark (including his post-credit appearance in The Incredible Hulk).

No one knows their neighbors anymore. Tony McNamara’s off-kilter but admirably good-hearted “Ashby” makes such a case. Young Ed Wallis’ (Nat Wolff) neighbor is a former CIA agent with nearly a hundred kills under his fashionably distressed belt. Who would want to live next door to someone like that? Conveniently enough, Ed would. He's the new kid in town and doesn’t have any friends to speak of, and the combination of a contrived school assignment (basically, “meet an old person, talk to them, write about it”) and the discovery of the bluehair next door inspires Ed to make a pal out of Ashby (Mickey Rourke).
