'Ant-Man' post credit stingers might be Marvel's most important yet

20 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

By now, audiences have been conditioned to stay seated at a Marvel movie until the very last seconds, just in case, and in this weekend's "Ant-Man," there are not one but two different extra scenes. And, yes, we'll be discussing spoilers here, so if you read past this point, please don't cry about it later. The first of the scenes is tremendously meta, a moment where Marvel is essentially making a promise to audiences. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) takes his estranged daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lily) into his private workshop. Much of the tension between the two of them in the film has to do with her confusion about why Hank wants to bring someone else in to wear the Ant-Man suit. When Hank finally tells her the truth about how her mother Janet, aka The Wasp, died in action, it helps heal the hurt between them, but it's »

Debauchery and archaeology go hand-in-hand in the new trailer for Jake Johnson comedy Digging for Fire

Writer-director Joe Swanberg's latest comedy Digging for Fire boasts an all-star cast for its bizarre tale of debauchery and archaeology.

Digging for Fire casts Jake Johnson and Rosemarie DeWitt as a married couple who are set on separate weekend adventures after finding a gun and a bone buried in their backyard.

While DeWitt is romanced by smooth-talking chef Orlando Bloom, Johnson calls in friends like Sam Rockwell and Mike Birbiglia to dig up his backyard.

Through the weird weekend, stars including Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Jenny Slate, Ron Livingston and Chris Messina get in on the fun.

Lead actor Johnson teamed up to write the screenplay with mumblecore godfather Swanberg, who turned Digging for Fire into his most star-studded feature yet.

The duo previously teamed up on Drinking Buddies back in 2013.

Digging for Fire opens on July 25 in the Us. A UK release is yet to be set. »

Ryan Reynolds Wants Cable To Lead The Team In An X-Force Movie

17 July 2015 5:59 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

We may not see Ryan Reynolds take the title role in Deadpool until next year, but that didn.t stops crowds from going nuts for the Merc with the Mouth at San Diego Comic-Con recently. And while Marvel is busy with their cinematic universe, Fox has the rights to a number of comic book characters, and we keep hearing people calling for them to crossover. For his part, Reynolds has a very specific team up he.d like to see: X-Force. Talking to ComicBook.com, Reynolds kicked around ideas for potential crossovers. When the subject of X-Force was broached, the question of whether or not he.d like to see Deadpool lead the crew came up, and Reynolds said: I always see Deadpool running against the grain for everything he does. He can.t possibly conform to any sort of leadership role. He always has to be the wild card. »

Film Review: ‘Antonia.’

1 hour ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“Antonia Pozzi was an Italian poet.” That terse description, augmented only by the dates of her birth and death (at age 26), is all the English-language Wikipedia entry has to offer on the tragic literary figure whose life inspired Ferdinando Cito Filomarino’s “Antonia.” Though the helmer’s impressionistic debut celebrates the “plainness” of Pozzi’s poetry and the unique “style that doesn’t feel like style” it exhibited, as biopics go, the project offers few additional clues as to her significance — and therein lies the paradox of this elegantly conceptualized but frustratingly de-contextualized film: One really ought to be familiar with Pozzi’s work in order to appreciate this wispy sketch of the years she spent finding her voice and seeking a supportive audience. Meanwhile, for neophytes, the fashionable but narratively flat pic feels too much like an advert for a line of elegant sweaters, while the model herself remains a mystery. »

Dance Me to My Song rewatched: a profoundly moving drama about living with cerebral palsy

Director Rolf de Heer collaborated with actor and disability rights campaigner Heather Rose on a love triangle drama unlike any other

The panning last year of Chris Lilley’s “brownface” in the ABC’s Jonah From Tonga program and the recent tsunami of criticism hurled at director Cameron Crowe for casting white-as-white-can-be Emma Stone as a half-Asian character in romantic comedy Aloha reminded film-makers of a pertinent message: the days when actors were afforded carte blanche to play whichever characters they like are over.

In this context, writer/director Rolf de Heer’s acclaimed 1998 drama Dance Me to My Song presents the fascinating possibility the debate could extend further than race and into other areas such as disability. An achingly genuine and profoundly moving drama about a woman born with cerebral palsy, the film was based on a fictitious screenplay that nevertheless closely mirrors the experiences of its star and co-writer Heather Rose, »
