Cara Delevingne thinks most superhero films are "totally sexist"

Cara Delevingne thinks most superhero movies are "totally sexist".

The actress - who will appear as Enchantress in David Ayer's Suicide Squad - questioned the outfits that a lot of female superheroes wear.

She told Empire: "There are only three girls in [Suicide Squad] but in my opinion they have the best roles. Generally though, superhero movies are totally sexist.

"Female superheroes are normally naked or in bikinis. No-one would be able to fight like that. Wonder Woman, how the hell does she fight? She would be dead in a minute."

Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Jai Courtney also feature in the cast of Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad tells the story of a group of supervillains led on a mission of redemption by soldier Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman).

Delevingne recently insisted that she has no plans to give up modelling despite her blossoming acting career. »

Evangeline Lilly hates on Ant-Man comics: 'They are total crap'

Evangeline Lilly may be one of the leading stars in Ant-Man, but that doesn't mean she's a fan of Marvel's comics.

The actress told Collider that the Ant-Man comics she has read have been "total crap", and explained that she didn't refer back to the source material when getting to grips with her character.

She will play Hank Pym's (Michael Douglas) estranged daughter Hope van Dyne in the upcoming adaptation, joining forces with Paul Rudd's Scott Lang to do battle with the villainous Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll).

Asked if the way she played Hope was inspired by the comics, she said: "No, it wasn't. I am still trying to figure out how to get my hands on original Ant-Man comics, where you get them.

"I've been given a couple recent Ant-Man comics. No offence Marvel, but they are total crap. I really want to read the original ones, because I »

Re-Viewed: Arnold Schwarzenegger's sci-fi classic The Terminator

Sci-fi more than any other genre, dates badly. What makes The Terminator an endlessly re-watchable classic is that, conversely, it feels more relevant with each passing year and with every new-fangled gadget that comes along promising to do all of your thinking for you. It's not just a slick, exciting action-thriller, it's also a shrewd cautionary tale for our tech-obsessed times and three decades on, the story continues to unspool with a fourth sequel Terminator Genisys opening in July.

Skynet, a self-governing computer network, is bent on destroying humankind in 2029, but director James Cameron co-penned the script with his future-wife Gale Anne Hurd in the early '80s, well before the rise of the internet. That was the first genius stroke, and then there was the casting of one Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He was a bodybuilder who had just made a significant dent at the box office in 1982's Conan the Barbarian »

What could possibly go wrong for Paul Rudd in this action-packed Ant-Man teaser?

26 June 2015 2:07 PM, PDT

Evil forces are on the loose in a new teaser for Marvel's Ant-Man, but Paul Rudd might be just small enough to stop them.

An action-packed television spot for Marvel's summer epic promises that heroes don't get any bigger than the shrinking Scott Lang (Rudd).

Director Peyton Reed's re-imagining of the comic franchise has Scott Lang being given scientist Hank Pym's (Michael Douglas) incredible shrinking suit in order to redeem himself from a life of petty theft.

With the help of Pym's estranged daughter Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Lang does battle with the egomaniacal villain known as Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll).

It was revealed this week that aside from introducing Ant-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie will also include another founding member of the Avengers.

Rudd is reprising his role alongside the heroes of the Marvel universe – including Tom Holland as Spider-Man - in next year's Captain America: Civil War as well. »

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are already beaming up for Star Trek 4

26 June 2015 10:16 AM, PDT

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are remaining at the helm of the Enterprise at least through Star Trek 4.

Production on next summer's Star Trek Beyond has just kicked off, but development is already underway on the fourth instalment in the film series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount recently closed deals with Pine and Quinto that will see both stars earn substantial raises.

Pine alone is expected to make $6 million from Star Trek 4, a far cry from the $600,000 he made for the 2009 reboot.

Star Trek Beyond has director Justin Lin taking over the franchise from Jj Abrams, who is now only a producer due to his commitment to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Scripting duties this time around were handed to Doug Jung and cast member Simon Pegg, who recently revealed that he was instructed to make the screenplay 'less Star Trek-y'.

Terminator Genisys slammed by critics in first reviews: 'Ludicrous and depressing spectacle'

26 June 2015 8:11 AM, PDT

Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally back as the T-800, but it's probably best not to expect a classic if the first reviews of Terminator Genisys are anything to go by.

The first wave of verdicts have landed and Arnie's big comeback is on the receiving end of a bit of a critical beating. It seems not even the presence of Mother of Dragons Emilia Clarke can revitalise the franchise. We round up a selection of the first (largely brutal) reviews below...

Variety

"It is, on the face of it, a ludicrous and faintly depressing spectacle, like watching a Terminator highlights reel stiffly enacted by Hollywood's latest bright young things (which makes the appearance of Jk Simmons all the more welcome in the minor role of a police detective).

"Yet while Terminator Genisys is far from a perfect movie, it may well be a perfect product of its time and place, one »

Jared Leto goes method as Joker, sends love letter and live rat to Margot Robbie

26 June 2015 7:46 AM, PDT

Jared Leto has gotten into his Joker character for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie by sending his co-stars some unusual gifts.

Co-star Adam Beach, who plays supervillain Slipknot, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that among the presents, Leto gave Margot Robbie a live rat.

"He sent her a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it - a live rat," Beach said. "It was beautiful.

"Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter."

Beach continued by recalling that the cast were given a dead hog, which was accompanied with a video message from Leto.

He explained: "Basically, what he said was, 'Guys, I can't be there but I want you to know I'm doing my work as hard as you guys'.

"The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realised that day, this is real."

Going Clear review: The film Scientologists don't want you to see

26 June 2015 5:56 AM, PDT

Director: Alex Gibney; Writer: Alex Gibney; Starring: Mike Rinder, Marty Rathbun, Paul Haggis, Jason Beghe; Running time: 119 mins; Certificate: 15

Bring me Louis Theroux! There are many moments during this disappointing depiction of Scientology where you may be crying out that very same plea.

Unlike the staggeringly good Amy, this documentary fails to muster any sense of objectivity towards the subject matter and frequently comes across as overly manipulative - the very trait it seeks to expose and demonise when it comes to Scientology. It's epitomised by the use of footage featuring key figures in the religion, including John Travolta, Tom Cruise and its founder L Ron Hubbard, which often dwells or freeze frames on the blazing eyes or wild laughter in a bid to make them look crazy. It devalues its objectives.

Such subjective treatment needs a stronger authorial presence in the film, beyond the occasional off-camera voice of the interviewer. »

The Grindhouse and Charmed actress had her contract with acting agency Innovative terminated after she spoke out against an audition note asking actresses to wear a "form fitting tank" to show off their cleavage.

Clueless jukebox musical is confirmed: 'Casting will be the main problem'

26 June 2015 3:35 AM, PDT

The long-rumoured Clueless musical has been confirmed.

The original film's director Amy Hecklering told Entertainment Tonight that casting would be the main challenge for the production.

"I've written what they call the book, and it's a jukebox musical," Hecklering said.

"Well, casting - that's, like, going to be like the main problem."

Last July, Heckerling revealed that popstar Katy Perry had expressed an interest in playing the lead role of Cher.

Cher was played by Alicia Silverstone in the 1995 film, and was supported by Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, Dan Hedaya, Elisa Donovan, Justin Walker, Donald Faison and Breckin Meyer.

A TV spinoff ran for three seasons on ABC from 1996 to 1999.

Rock of Ages director Kristin Hanggi will direct the play and Dodger Theatricals (Jersey Boys) is producing.

Hecklering has not confirmed what songs will be in the Clueless musical.

Mad Max: Fury Road has debuted a Furiosa prequel comic - and it's awful

26 June 2015 3:18 AM, PDT

Mad Max: Fury Road might be one of the most critically-beloved films of the year, but the same can't be said for its comic book off-shoot.

The Vertigo Comics prequel series, penned by Fury Road's George Miller and Nico Lathouris, and Mark Sexton, is coming under fire for its depiction of rape and sexual abuse against Immortan Joe's wives.

Where Fury Road chose to avoid showing any of this violence, the comic makes it explicit and even gives Charlize Theron's character Furiosa a rape backstory. Co-writer Sexton has taken to Twitter to defend the plot, saying that his focus was on creating "dramatic tension".

@KameronJdevine Best answer is that the use of institutionalised rape by Immortan Joe is not only central to the story -

Setting Nina's Simone's record straight with What Happened, Miss Simone?

26 June 2015 1:30 AM, PDT

What Happened, Miss Simone? lands on Netflix this week - a documentary delving deep into the life and achievements of the incomparable Nina Simone.

Drawing on an extensive library of rare footage and interviews, the film executes the impressive feat of allowing the High Priestess of Soul to tell her story in her own words, more than a decade after her death.

Digital Spy sat down with the film's director Liz Garbus and Simone's daughter Lisa Simone Kelly - who served as producer on the movie - to discuss the musical icon's legacy, the state of race relations in 2015, and Zoe Saldana's controversial biopic:

Setting the record straight

Speaking to the filmmakers, it is clear that they feel very strongly about revealing Simone's story to a public that has largely forgotten how influential she was to both music and the Civil Rights Movement in the '60s.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play to open in London in 2016, Jk Rowling confirms

26 June 2015 1:00 AM, PDT

Jk Rowling is ready to share the "untold part" of Harry Potter's story in a new stage play in London next year.

First announced in 2013, the production will receive its world premiere in summer 2016 at the Palace Theatre in the West End. It is called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and will not be a prequel as originally rumoured.

Rowling is working on the show with the "dream team" of writer Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany, and explained that theatre is the "only proper medium" for the story.

"I'm very excited to confirm today that a new play called Harry Potter and the #CursedChild will be opening in London next year," the author wrote on Twitter.

"It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself. It has been a huge pleasure to share with them (and soon, »
