Dublin-based production company Element Pictures has acquired film and TV rights to Laird Hunt novel Neverhome, with long-time Element collaborator Lenny Abrahamson set to direct and Ed Guiney producing.

‘The Maze Runner’ Sequel ‘The Scorch Trials’ Already Announced

22 September 2014 9:20 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Following an opening weekend where it reached the top spot at the box office, The Maze Runner has already announced a sequel in The Scorch Trials. Taking its title from the second installment of James Dashner’s 3-part series, The Scorch Trials has set its release date for September 18th, 2015, just a year off of Maze Runner‘s recent release, as reported on The Dissolve. Whether or not 20th Century Fox will split the last book of the trilogy, The Death Cure, into two films to be released in September 2016 & 2017 hasn’t been confirmed, but seems inevitable.

The Maze Runner avoided the fate of other Ya book adaptations that failed to launch (like Beautiful Creatures or Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) by nearly eclipsing its reported $34 million budget off of domestic opening weekend numbers alone (it earned $32,512,804 according to BoxOfficeMojo‘s latest numbers). Additionally, The Maze Runner earned a bonus »

The Maze Runner cut from 15 to 12A for UK release

22 September 2014 8:24 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

The Maze Runner has been cut from a 15 certificate to a 12A for its UK theatrical release.

The dystopian sci-fi thriller, which is based on James Dashner's young adult novel, has been reduced by 43 seconds to secure a lower rating and reach a wider audience.

According to the BBFC, The Maze Runner's distributor 20th Century Fox "chose to remove or reduce moments of threat, violence and injury in order to achieve a 12A classification".

"An uncut 15 was available," the report concludes.

The film's classification change is similar to that of 2012's The Hunger Games, which was reduced by 7 seconds in order to get a 12A. A 15-rated uncut version was later released on DVD and Blu-ray.

'Maze Runner' Sequel 'Scorch Trials' Set for a September 2015 Release

22 September 2014 7:40 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

After topping the box office this past weekend with an estimated $32.5 million opening weekend, the young adult sci-fi adaption The Maze Runner starring Dylan O'Brien, Will Poulter and Kaya Scodelario has done well enough for 20th Century Fox for them to move forward with a sequel. THR reports the studio has set Maze Runner: Scorch Trials for release on September 18th, 2015. The film will be based on the second book in James Dashner's book series, and while the title seems odd, considering the fact there are no mazes in the sequel story, it's simply brand recognition so people who aren't familiar with the books. Fox also released a high-definition version of the concept art we saw at Comic-Con this past summer: The film is also doing well overseas, so this looks to be a hit for Fox. The Maze Runner Sequel, The Scorch Trials, Set for September 18, 2015

21 September 2014 7:40 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Maze Runner sprinted to a successful opening at the box office this weekend, and now 20th Century Fox is moving forward on the sequel, The Scorch Trials, which will be released on September 18, 2015.  The sequel was already in pre-production since director Wes Ball showed off some concept art at The Maze Runner’s Comic-Con panel this past July.  Additionally, work on the sequel script began almost a year ago.  For studios, the most important element to Ya franchises is speed, and as long as the debut is a success, the sequel is already loaded and ready to go.  We saw it with Divergent and Insurgent earlier this year.  On the flipside, don’t expect to see a sequel to The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones anytime ever. Hit the jump to check out The Scorch Trials concept art along with a synopsis for James Dashner’s novel of the same name. »

The Maze Runner Sequel The Scorch Trials Set for 2015 Release

21 September 2014 4:04 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The Maze Runner was released in the Us on Friday and an impressive opening of an estimated $32.5 million has resulted in 20th Century Fox announcing a 2015 release date for the sequel, The Scorch Trials.

The movie was only expected to earn quite a bit less than this, so the fact that it has exceeded expectations has clearly shown the studio that they have a hit on their hands (especially as it took $49 million overseas for a current worldwide total of $81.5 million). Reviews have also been mostly positive so far.

The Scorch Trials will be released on September 18th, 2015, under a year from now. That date means it will square off against Baltasar Kormákur’s Everest and the untitled Whitey Bulger biopic starring Johnny Depp.

Wes Ball will return to direct and shooting is expected to start soon. T.S. Nowlin also returns as writer.

Box Office Results: The Maze Runner Jogs Past the Competition at the Box Office

20 September 2014 10:53 PM, PDT | Comingsoon.net | See recent Comingsoon.net news »

Despite things generally slowing down in September, we had a rare up weekend from last year and much of that was thanks to the success of the adaptation of James Dashner's The Maze Runner (20th Century Fox), starring Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Will Poulter, which scored an estimated $32.5 million for the weekend in 3,604 theaters, averaging $9 thousand per location. Taking a distant second with less than half that amount was Liam Neeson's crime-thriller A Walk Among the Tombstones (Universal), co-starring Dan Stevens, which brought in a mild sum of $13.1 million in 2,712 theaters. »

New Maze Runner Movie Delivered Great Action,Drama,Suspense & More

20th Century Fox released their new action/adventure/thriller film, "The Maze Runner," into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was highly entertaining and suspenseful as hell. I really dug the plotline too as it was very intriguing. The movie stars: Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Aml Ameen, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Will Poulter. In the new flick, character Thomas, shows up in a rusty elevator called The Box, and is greeted by other boys in a grassy clearing called the Glade, which is surrounded by tall, gray walls that enclose off the entrance to the maze. Thomas is unable to remember anything about himself, but Alby, the leader of the Glade, tells him that it's happened to everyone and that his name will come to him soon. Thomas is very curious about the maze, but is warned not to enter as no one has ever survived the maze throughout the night. »

Learn How To Survive the Apocalypse with Dylan O’Brien and the Guys from The Maze Runner

This weekend welcomes the highly anticipated post-apocalyptic film The Maze Runner, based on the novel by James Dashner. Aside from stating the obvious (it’s filled with buff guys and testosterone galore), it’s time you get to know these leading men a little bit better.

Of course, lead Dylan O’Brien (MTV’s Teen Wolf) is fantastic eye candy, proving he’s one of the main reasons girls everywhere will swarm to the theaters this weekend. But don’t overlook his supporting castmates. After all, Will Poulter did watch Jennifer Aniston strip in We’re the Millers. Game of Thrones fans, you’ll recognize Thomas Sangster from his time as Jojen Reed (or even from his work as Sam in Love Actually). Sangster told VH1 he enjoyed playing Maze Runner‘s Newt so much, he doesn’t really miss Got. “I had a great time doing it, »

Critical Mass: Can 'The Maze Runner' find a way out of the Ya wilderness?

Expectations for The Maze Runner, the latest Ya best-seller turned franchise wannabe, seemed low, so much so that critical faint praise suddenly feels like a ringing endorsement. “Don’t let that Ya tag put you off,” says EW’s Chris Nashawaty, in his review. “There isn’t a dying heroine or hunky vampire to be found anywhere in this better-than-average adaptation of the James Dashner bestseller. Just a bunch of confused kids on the run from a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D.”

Close to Chaos: All your favourite dystopian movies in one supercut

19 September 2014 10:05 AM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

With the recent trend of female-led dystopian films based on Young Adult novels doing so well at the box office –like The Hunger Games and Divergent – it was only a matter of time before the boys jumped onto the bandwagon.

The Maze Runner's Dylan O’Brien (“Teen Wolf”), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually, “Game of Thrones”) and Will Poulter (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) join JLaw and Shailene as the newest teenaged heroes to bring down a corrupt system – or at least try to.

Overriding the system isn’t just a game for the under-25 set, however. Dystopian films have embraced the idea of rebellion for decades, churning out classics like The Matrix and The Terminator. In recent years, movies like Looper,V for VendettaI Am Legend, and Snowpiercer have won over audiences and critics alike.

Box Office: ‘Maze Runner’ Starts Solidly with $1.1 Million in Late-Night Shows

19 September 2014 8:24 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Fox’s “The Maze Runner” has started solidly with an estimated $1.1 million from 2,200 locations in late-night Thursday shows.

The futuristic saga of a group of teenagers who must outrace monsters has been expected to win the weekend with forecasts ranging from the high $20 million into the mid-$30 million range when it expands to 3,604 screens.

The cast, led by Dylan O’Brien of “Teen Wolf,” has been actively campaigning for “Maze Runner” in recent weeks across major social media as Fox aims to tap into the young-adult audience that turned “The Hunger Games” and “Twilight” into successful franchises.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario and Will Poulter also star in the movie, centered on teen boys waking up with no memory inside a giant maze.

Liam Neeson’s crime thriller “A Walk Among the Tombstones” generated moderate business with $428,000 at shows in 1,918 theaters starting at 8 p.m. The movie is adapted from the »

Film Review: ‘The Maze Runner’ a Cut Above Teenage Dystopia Genre

19 September 2014 7:42 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Yes, the future world of teenage bleakness, so popular in “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent,” now has its own genre. “The Maze Runner” is an excellent entry, and gets over its stilted dialogue and scary monsters by adding in surprises and atmospheric mystery.

Rating: 4.0/5.0

The ending of the film – even though it screams sequel – has a heart-pounding twist rooted in what-is-happening-here audacity, which started as a weird story of kids stuck in a wooded field in the middle of a gigantic mechanical maze. This is enough to fulfill the dark environment of yet another view into society’s lost future, which is apparently not influenced by anyone over 30 years of age (shades of the 1960s! Groovy!). Notable are the lead young actors creating the situation, especially Dylan O’Brien (MTV’s “Teen Wolf”) and the always-welcome Will Poulter (“We’re the Millers”).

Mazed and Confused: Ball’s Lusterless Debut Another Dystopic Ya Derivative

Pretty teenagers that survive the apocalypse are sure going to have it tough. Or maybe all these Ya geared portrayals of life in the reconstruction period wrapped in video game gloss will serve as subconscious instruction manuals for today’s teens that may eventually be tomorrow’s adults dealing with the tail end of human civilization. If that’s the case, perhaps these sanitized depictions are doing more damage by being crafted solely for the delicate palette of today’s teen entertainment sensibilities. As could be predicted, the strongest aspect of visual and digital effects artist Wes Ball’s foray into directing with franchise courting The Maze Runner, are the film’s visual effects. Given the circumstances and the parameters administered, the look of the film is just fine. But, as often is the case with these types of motion pictures, »
