‘Transformers’ Writers Room Is Complete With The Addition Of ‘Daredevil’ Season One Showrunner Steven DeKnight

2 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

So it looks like Akiva Goldsman and Michael Bay are taking a page out of the TV model for their upcoming “Transformers” Cinematic Universe, its sequels, its spin-offs, its potential prequels and more. Rather than hire one writer per film—or if you’re Warner Bros. pit multiple writers against each other for “Wonder Woman” or Sony doing the same for their female driven "21 Jump Street" spinoff— Goldsman and Bay are adopting the TV model of a writers room think tank: anywhere from seven to ten writers in a room who toss around ideas all day and break stories. It’s a collective, best-ideas win approach and they’ve decided that’s best for the Tcu. “There is such reciprocity between TV and movies now, that we’re borrowing this from TV,” Goldsman told Deadline recently. “I got a taste of this from J.J. Abrams when I came in to write an episode of ‘Fringe, »

Watch: Jennifer Lawrence Leads A Full Scale War In The First Trailer For ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2’

3 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

There seems to be something slightly anti-climatic brewing with the “Hunger Games” franchise. While most of these films just make money hand over fist—and “Catching Fire” made gangbusters money—the enthusiasm for Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games” series seemed to wane a little bit with ‘Mockingjay—Part 1.’ And perhaps that’s because audiences are beginning to tire of the elongated franchise climax and its transparent methods. Beginning with “Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows” which was split into two parts and made zillions, every studio wants to wring and milk as much money as they can from their final episodes, sorry, film in the franchise.  The “Twilight Saga” did the same thing, Peter Jackson overstayed his welcome with “The Hobbit” trilogy, Marvel intends to do it with “Avengers: Infinity Wars” and copycats DC/Warner will Xerox the formula for a two-part “Justice League” film. But as “Mockingjay—Part 1” showed at the box-office, »

You might have thought, or even hoped, that with Warner Bros. getting their DC movie slate together, the studio would put their live action remake of "Akira" to the side. You would be wrong. The project which was been years in development and nearly came close to shooting in 2012, before WB yanked the plug, is brewing once again. THR reports "Daredevil" season 2 showrunner Marco J. Ramirez has been tapped to pen the script for "Akira." Last summer, Dante Harper was tasked with the gig but earlier this spring Jaume Collet-Serra, long attached to direct, indicated that the movie might be on hold, and it's unclear if he's still involved at this point. As for Ramirez, he has no feature writing experience, but has logged time on television with "Daredevil," "Orange Is The New Black," and "Sons Of Anarchy." So, we'll see if Ramirez has the right touch to finally get this movie made, »
