Drive-In Dust Offs: Kill, Baby, Kill

The absolute nucleus, the atomic chain of Italian horror begins with Mario Bava. Filmmakers from Scorcese to Tarantino have praised the lurid, awe-inspiring artistry (and artwork) of such classics as Black Sabbath (1963) and Twitch of the Death Nerve (1971). However, Kill, Baby, Kill(1966) may be his crowning achievement, a fever dream of shadows and fog, illusion and menace.

Released in July in his native Italy (but not until 1968 in North America), Kill was a financial success back home. Bava was very prolific, with Kill being his ninth film in six years. This is all the more shocking, because his films don’t scream ‘rush job’, but rather seem meticulously planned and executed.

Kill falls right in line with the horror of the day, gothic du jour, served steamy and sensuous. Beautiful women (usually in low clingy bodices) swooning and/or screaming, usually pursued through a dark and gloomy castle by some evil doctor, »

Blu-ray Review: Dog Soldiers (Collector’s Edition)

25 June 2015 3:59 PM, PDT

This week, Scream Factory is celebrating Neil Marshall’s stunning debut feature, Dog Soldiers, with a special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and DVD combo pack that is nothing short of an amazing feat in itself. And while there has been some controversy surrounding the quality of the transfer (more on that later), what I will say is that regardless, Sf has done an excellent job with their overall presentation of the disc and it’s nice to see the spotlight finally on Dog Soldiers, a film that has flown mostly under the radar here in the States since it was first released back on DVD in 2002.

Dog Soldiers starts off with a weekend military exercise that goes horribly awry, when a group of Scottish soldiers are sent off to a wooded area that also happens to be a haven for strange happenings, as a string of disappearances have occurred there over the years. »

In a recent interview with Vulture, Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller discussed the remainder of Hannibal Season 3 and its potential continuance at a new home.

Fuller discussed how his current gig as showrunner on Starz's American Gods series adaptation would affect future Hannibal endeavors:

"It would be a case of staggering two productions so that I could do both. We’re not on a network anymore, and that means we’re not on a network schedule.

There would be a small gap if there is a fourth season because of my obligations to American Gods. I want to make sure, while launching a new series with my partner Michael Green, that »
